Haslett optimistic over recent additions By Mark Alexander malexander@clarionledger.com RIDGELAND  One of the first questions New Orleans Saints coach Jim Haslett fielded Monday was from a fan wanting to know if the team had gotten any secondary help for cornerbacks Fred Thomas and Ashley Ambrose. Haslett grinned, turned to his left and pointed to defensive linemen Darren Howard and Brian Young, who were among those in the Saints' promotional caravan that stopped at Northpark Mall. "Yeah," said Haslett, with a grin on his face. "Here's their help. Anytime you can rush the passer and stop the run, it helps out your cornerbacks a lot." Revamped Saints praise new defense
Every year, articles like these start popping up. Little cute tidbits (PR) that make the team look good, and Saint\'s fans excited to go buy tickets and jerseys. I fell for that last year. Sure, we had injuries, weird plays, bad calls.....but nobody cares.
I am excited about this season because 1. i love the Saints and 2. i love football. Period. I am not coming into this season with any major expectations. We can discuss why we suck or why we will be in the Big Game. I enjoy that. But the reality is the NFL is so unpredictable and the Saints...well...we all know about our beloved team. I will probably go bald due to the Saints, not my 2 year old daughter who already wants to start driving. |

Revamped Saints praise new defense
I feel ya, Shrume and Dat.
I\'m optimistic every year around this time. Like Shrume said, it\'s part of loving this team and loving this sport. No matter what anyone says or writes, during the off-season, the Saints have as much of a chance as anyone. What I want this season is to have a reason to sustain my optimism through January. Young may be the motor we\'ve needed on defense for the past two seasons. I\'m really hyped about this guy. |
