Former QB Gets Punked
Wednesday, June 23, 2004
Associated Press MILTON, Fla. -- Former Brigham Young and NFL quarterback Jim McMahon has been placed on probation for 12 months after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge during an appearance in Santa Rosa County Court, lawyers said Wednesday. McMahon, 44, who led the Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl title in 1986, was also ordered Tuesday to perform 50 hours of community service and pay about $850 in fines and costs, said Assistant State Attorney Andy McGraw. His driver's license was suspended for six months. Two breath tests indicated McMahon, arrested Nov. 9 at Navarre while visiting the Florida Panhandle, had blood alcohol levels of 0.261 percent and 0.258 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent. Defense lawyer Tommy Ratchford said McMahon asked him to drop a legal challenge to the results alleging the breath testing machine had been improperly maintained. McMahon admitted he had been drunk and was willing to accept whatever penalty the judge gave him to resolve the case, Ratchford said. McMahon threw for 18,148 yards in his 119-game NFL career. His best season was 1985, when he set career-highs in yards (2,392) and touchdowns (15) for the Bears, who went 15-1 and beat New England in Super Bowl XX. That was McMahon's only Pro Bowl season. The former Brigham Young star left Chicago in a 1989 trade with San Diego and also spent time with Philadelphia, Minnesota, Arizona, Cleveland and Green Bay. He was a two-time college All-American at BYU. After his arrest, the Illinois Liquor Control Commission removed from bars its posters featuring McMahon, who lives in the Chicago area, saying "Don't Be a Punk and Get Drunk: Our Servers Serve Responsibly." |

Former QB Gets Punked
Nice spokesman for the posters. I was a big McMahon fan in the 80\'s. Did anyone see that helacious hit he took against Green Bay?? He had released the ball, and was looking downfield like 20 seconds later. Some lineman just comes up, lifts him off the ground, and slams him down like a little rag doll. It was the worst show of sportsmanship I\'d seen,
until that p###y a$$ crap Warren Sapp pulled on that lineman. |
