This is a much safer and just as effective method of stopping the ball carrier. We play rugby with out helmets and these laws are strictly enforced and is healthier for both the ball carrier or the defender.

In your Pierre Thomas hit example we learned...(what we already knew)

To make a legal hit that knocks a player out of a game results in:

1) saving your team from a touchdown against
2) a forced fumble on your stat line
3) your ball
4) the teams leading rusher missing the rest of the game
5) your highlight video on sports center and the NFL network repeatedly for the next week

But on the other hand, to encourage legal hits that knock a player out of the game in the locker room will result in a year off with no pay. (what we're learning now)

It's all about player safety.

I think saying "it's stupid but hey... the NFL is run by idiots" sums it up well.

Even if the hit was illegal they wouldnt call it on any other team but us. I wonder if RG sat down with the refs and told them to keep a close eye on us.

They were replacement refs, they were missing calls the whole night on both sides of the ball... And struggled with the ones they did call
