After catching four passes for 45 yards in the 2011 preseason, Tanner has been a bigger part of the offense so far this year. He has eight receptions for 120 yards in the Saints' first two games alone. Furthermore, Tanner seems very comfortable with his routes and his sure hands make him a reliable target for the quarterbacks.
Tanner's college career showed that he is capable of success. A receiver for Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas, he played his way into the school's record book in several categories between 2006-09. Among Tanner's school records are his 75 catches and 1,186 yards in a season and his 20 career touchdowns. His 120 career receptions rank third in school history. In one game in 2009, Tanner caught an 80-yard pass and scored three touchdowns for the Mustangs. New Orleans Saints Wide Receiver Andy Tanner Should Make the Team: Fan's Take - Yahoo! Sports |

I agree with others. This guy is a throwback to the old school wide outs.
Looks like he can catch anything. If he doesn't make the Saints he'll be a receiver somewhere in the NFL, and I hope we don't have to play him twice a year. |

I am glad that our team has a hard time deciding playing time. It means the management has been doing a great job

We still have three games to go before regular season and I haven't seen consistency yet. Of course he hasn't had time to be consistent. Just sayin'.......only time will tell.

Plaxico would look good opposite Colston and with Brees throwing to him. Colston, Plax, Moore, and Graham would be unstoppable in the red zone. In regards to Tanner, he should make it if the Saints keep six WR's. But, for some reason, I doubt he will.

Re: New Orleans Saints Wide Receiver Andy Tanner Should Make the Team: Fan's Take
The next 3 games should settle it, but based on what I read from camp reports, what we saw in pre-season and last years camp...
Locks: Colston Henderson Moore Toon (arguable, but I think he's a lock) Probable: Roby (so far, you might say lock) The last spot, so far here's the pecking order subject to change at any moment... Morgan (good camp, great special teamer, needs to flash in a game) Tanner (better camp, but not a special teamer) Arrington (injury likely spells his doom) Since Tanner is basically similar in skilset to Colston and Toon, we may need another burner to pair with Devery. Morgan fits that role better than Tanner. Also, I think Morgan has the speed to separate from starting NFL defenders. I'm not sure Andy Tanner does. I'd like to see him against some starters or at least a mix of starters/legit back-ups. I've read he ran a 4.55, but I can't verify. 4.55 is probably fast enough. |

Tanner can play ball.
We already had a pocket full of gold when our scouts found him. Tanner will make somebody a good if not great receiver. With us, he would be just another recipient of the 40+ weekly distribution. I hope he gets a chance to make a name for himself, here or elswhere. I like him! |
