Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet
With Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski cashing in after only two NFL seasons, many assume that Saints tight end Jimmy Graham will be next.
Graham isn’t among the many. “I’m already breaking the bank I think,” Graham told the media on Thursday, via comments transcribed and distributed by the team. “I don’t even think about those aspects of it right now. We have such a big season and we have so many hurdles to get over until that really comes in the picture. I know if I handle and I take care of the things I need to on the field that this organization will take care of me.” Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet | ProFootballTalk |

Jimmy...Jimmy...Jimmy, think about this. The next time you're at the Brees' playing with the kids, Baylen has more money in his bank account than you do.

Re: Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet
Thats what Brees said too.

His saying this might actually be part of the process of getting a new contract, it always takes som posturing and it is sure to only increase his popularity among the fans.

He's peaking too early. And has been injured. He'll never finish as a Saint. Just calling it like I see it. I love Jimmy Graham playing for the Saints. Alaska |

Well if he has the season like he did this year he will get big headed and want a big contact

Flying is a pretty expensive hobby.

Trade for whom? For what? (ok, I channeled Ricky Waters, but I digress). Dude's arguably the best TE in the NFL. As for "peaking too early", I don't get it. You want to wait 5 years down the road so he "peaks"? |
Re: Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet
Brees was injured... Will finish as a Saint.
This is not a season, there is no peaking "too early" for a player... Jimmy has raw natural ability and athleticism. Trade over my corpse. |
Re: Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet
No way Jimmy gets traded! The only way he doesn't stay a Saint is if we can't afford him, but Loomis will find a way...

You keep the core of players that you want and need then fill in around them with less expensive players.

Re: Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet
My comment about trading Graham has to do with AFFORDING him. He's peaking early, thus will cost us more to keep him for a career. AND he's got the nagging injury barrier between him and a big contract with the Saints.
Pay him what he's worth, maybe, but there will come a day when he will think he is worth more than he actually is, and then someone with a bigger checkbook will make him the offer we CAN'T. I love Jimmy Graham playing for the Saints, but he's gonna want to get paid like a rockstar, not a member of a TEAM. Alaska |

Peaking too early...........smh.....thats not peaking....its called being a diamond in the rough. The guy has only been playing the game of football since 2009....he's still learning the game and how to play his position. Once he learns how to be an better blocker....thats when you know he's hit his peak because even though he pretty much a match up problem for every NFL team now....he will officially be unstoppable when he perfects the blocking portion of his game...and by tha time....he'll most likely already be locked to be a Saint for the rest of his career.... Believe me he'll get paid. Just like Colston/Pierre/Moore who all have and still have nagging injuries but are key parts of this offense. The only time Jimmy's nagging injury came into play and really hurt us was his rookie year when he missed the playoff game against the Seahawks. And you can't really blame Jimmy for that blame GW's defense.... And yeah he possibly might ask for more than he's worth (which IMO, just like Brees, he's worth every penny) but I'm pretty sure Loomis has thought about that already.....and if he hasn't he'll have plenty of time to do so in the first 8 weeks of this season. |
Re: Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet
The NFL pays for past performance. It's just how it works. We will pay Jimmy what he is worth. If he gets injured this season, he is just about gone unless he accepts a cheap contract, if he plays 16 games +playoffs and comes even close to last year, he give him a fat extension. After that he can get injured, phone it in or whatever then get traded. I don't think he will, he doesn't seem like that type of guy, but more likely than not we are going to pay Jimmy handsomely next year (probably at the cost of the defense once again)

If he doesn't improve his blocking, he's going to get his QB broke.
