Re: Saints find right fit
Good article, thanks for sharing. With all the diamonds in the rough we find it baffles me how bad we draft in early rounds. You would think we could trade some of our early round picks to stockpile later round picks and acquire key free agents.

Re: Saints find right fit
We haven't drafted many superstars in the early rounds, but still very productive NFL players. Give me more early round picks every day all day... as opposed to stockpiling mid/later round picks.
Nonsense. |

Re: Saints find right fit
I think the Saints usually pick the player they want who will not be on the board for their next pick. Even if they think a late round guy is a better player, they won't pick him since he will still be there, all of us who play fantasy know that.
To be honest though, we haven't actually given many of those guys a really solid chance yet: -Malcolm was started at corner even though he really has the skillset of an FS, when he was finally allowed to start at FS he was in the last (crappiest) year of the GW defense. This year he already looks better, but I would like to see two full seasons of him starting under the same system before we decide that he was a bust. -Patrick never really jived with GW either, even though when he was in he played really well. Corners are less system dependent so I just want to see him start for a year. -Ingram came in and got hurt, if he can stay healthy this year we will see how he does, if not, then I guess he is a bust. -Cam was forced like a square peg into a round hole in GW's defense, Spags defense is a lot more like what he played in college and excelled at, give him a couple healthy years as well. Right now, I don't think we have a really fair way to judge these guys (especially seeing as most of them are on defense,) but at the end of this season we should have a lot of answers, and by the end of 2013 we will definitely be able to evaluate this group. |

I do wish we could hit on a couple of more of our first rounders.

That is a big hats off to the men in the front office. How many of us here remember when we didn't have a front office? I know I do

Re: Saints find right fit
It is kinda weird that we seem to experience more success on late rounders/UDFA's than we do with the 1st rounders. Maybe I just hear more about those guys because they came from such late rounds and do anything notable at all. The bar is definitely pretty high for the 1st rounders. Cam Jordan seemed like he fit in well last year, as well as Ingram. Robinson has looked pretty good also so I guess its not as bad as it might seem at first glance. Big Sed and Malcolm have left a little to be desired, but that could've been scheme b/c Jenkins seemed to have a mostly impossible job the last two years (Only Sharper could successfully play safety in that scheme it seems), and Sed has definitely gotten some pressure this preseason, HoF game especially. We haven't had an out-and-out first round bust in a while, so I'm not complaining
