OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

Texans at Saints

WHEN: 7 p.m. Saturday.
WHERE: Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
TV: CBS.
RADIO: WTGE-FM, 100.7.

Broadcast Information: Saints vs. Texans

Might as well get this thing going. First game I'm going to watch in full. This could very well be a possible Superbowl matchup.

Could be. Any idea how long we keep the starters in? Im guessing the whole first half unless we are way ahead. Some teams go even longer than that in the 3rd preseason game. Anyhow I hope we correct some of the mistakes we made last week.

Re: Texans at Saints

No way we get way ahead against their defense and their offense is built to keep up with us... Unless the defense repeats the Patriots game

Re: Texans at Saints

It will all depend on the game plan. Do you play hard enough to get injured or do you play enough to get your reps & hits in. I don't think we will see much in the way of complicated defensive or offensive skeams.

"Built to" and doing so are worlds apart. That being said it seems their defense so far this preseason is on step with last year and if we do not stop the run game any better than we did against the Jacksonville Foster and Tate are going to have a ball against us.

Our CB's better be ready for Johnson.

Texans are a tough opponent even for Preseason.
Our defense really needs to get it together for this game or I seriously will start to lower my expectations for this season.

Me too. This is one pre season game I am actually a little on edge about. Not winning or losing, but weather or not we improve. If we dont improve I will start to really worry. Despite some of my chicken little posts I have been cautiously optomistic until now

Don't do that just yet.... I would temper that with the idea that we are not going to show all our cards in the preseason, our defense is still learning how to tackle and an entirely new to them defensive game plan. On offense we are still trying out new players and plays.

"Hopefully" against the Jag's we were trying out "out of the norm" items to see if they should be included in the regular season.

That being said..... WE of all teams should have not been the victim of a squib kick at 1/2 time. WE of all teams should be prepared for anyone to do that to us.

As long as we come out healthy. We can't afford anymore injuries before the season starts. Texans whipped our azzez last year in pre season but we took the regular season game. This game don't mean squat other than what back ups we keep.

More than one championship team has had a losing record in the preseason. Hell, more than one has had a losing or even record the first half of the season. Keep the faith Who Dats, the race hasn't even started yet!

C'mon Halo. You knew our defense needed time to gel under a new coach and a new scheme. Thats why I was glad we had the extra pre-season game.

Our defense looked bad for 1 game, against a zone blocking team that we didn't gameplan for.

The NFL network guys (Ross Tucker??) mentioned that if you don't gameplan against a zone blocking team, you can get gashed pretty good against those stretch plays. If you spend a week preparing for it, its not that much harder to defend. He did agree that our tackling was surprisingly poor though.

I wouldn't worry just yet.

Part of me wants to drop 50 on them just for the entertainment value that would occur on 610 here, then again it would be even funnier for all the sheeps in town to crown them Preseason Champs only to see Shaub go down in week 4 and the Titans were to win the division

Re: OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

I always consider the Texans in preseason to be kinda like a rehearsal for the Falcons games. Our games with both those teams tend to be close, and have that 7-0, 7-7, 14-7, 14-14, 14-17, 17-17 type of symmetry to them, where it's always tied or close to tied, and nobody ever really runs away with the game. The Texans and Falcons offenses kinda look similar sometimes. Texans have a better defense. So, good practice for the Failcowns.

After drinking heavily last night, I have since changed my mind.

Seriously, I think the biggest potential detriment is the loss of Sean Payton for the year. I'm a huge believer that he makes the magic happen.

Hopefully Houston's front 7 is all playing... should be an exciting matchup for Drew and our offensive line. They are stacked.

I'll be there. First time back in the Dome since 2005 - the preseason game prior to Katrina, in fact. Frankly, I haven't been able to afford tix since we we started winning!

Sure, it's just the preseason, but I'm really looking forward to it. It's been waayy too long since I enjoyed a Saints game at the Dome!

I was on the field for my company for a presentation and donation to Support Our War Heroes before that game! Did you see me?? :smokin:
Seriously, that game was etched in my mind FOREVER as the last Saints game I would ever see.... until we returned and kicked the Failclown's butts!!!

Umm ... yes? :)

Actually, I was wrong. I was at the Seahawks preseason game Aug. 12 that year, the last was the Ravens on Aug. 26.

And I've been to several Saints games since 2005, they've just been away games in Atlanta, Carolina, etc. It'll be nice to see a game with the home crowd again!

Bogus pass interference call there. Sigh.

44Champs 08-25-2012 07:15 PM

Obviously our LBs are the waek link on our defense. That first drive was PITIFUL.

Re: OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

Chris Ivory might not make a roster spot at this point.

Re: OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

And there goes Joe Morgan's roster spot. Sigh.

Re: OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

I dont see how they let the Texans push Morgan back that far, then strip the ball like that, they should of whistled it dead long before that point due to forward progress being stopped.

Re: OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

These replacement officials ate absolutely dreadful.
I was watching a game last night and instead of a holding call they called a roughing the passer.
The only reason there was contact was the defender had his arm wrapped around the rushers neck and threw him off balance

Damn that's hit

No attempt to play the ball there, just runs straight into graham

Wilde18 08-25-2012 09:47 PM

I see a lot of fights and rivalty on the field. Is there a problem between us and the Texans?

The Saints play the Texans each preseason, they usually practice together the week of the game and yes there's some history between the teams.

for example

Wilde18 08-25-2012 10:15 PM

This is obvious. But anyways, we win, that's good! Sproles is still injured? Will he be back for reg season?

Sproles was out for precautionary reasons, he'll be back game one...

Wilde18 08-25-2012 10:18 PM

Good news! We need him!

Yea it's amazing how many injuries we have. I cant even get excited to watch players or defense because we're banged up. Reminds me of the year we won the sb. But Nicks looked good out there hoping that continues.

Anyone else wondering will we cut AA since we got Camerillo and Toon?

I assume you mean Hicks?

I think Morgan takes AA's spot...

Re: OFFICIAL GAMEDAY THREAD: Texans at Saints

Well that was fun! Best game of the pre-season. Sure hope we get some LBs back. Who do we keep at WR? Do you bring in a guy like Camarillo then cut him? You have keep Morgan don't you?
