Loomis: 2004 draftees could play big part this season and in future Nick Deriso nderiso@thenewsstar.com July 12, 2004 Like a slow-maturing investment, draft classes are selected in April but don't really prove their worth until months later at training camp. The New Orleans Saints have seen even less of this year's group, since school kept two picks from participating in some of the club's off-season programs. Still, general manager Mickey Loomis said he thinks the Saints' 2004 draft will be one of those that "we look back two or three years from now and say: We got a lot of football players from that group. I think they will end up being a core for this team for a long time to come." The Saints begin training camp a week from Friday at their training facility in Metairie.
