Part Two of Three

This season the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be home to the New Orleans Saints and to Super Bowl XLVII. These two experiences would not necessarily be the same, even if the Saints make their way into the Super Bowl. The NFL makes great efforts to de-emphasize the host franchises influence during normal Super Bowl preparations, now imagine the Saints actually making the game this coming February.

All mentions of the New Orleans Saints in and around the Superdome (with the exception of the NFC end zone) will be removed and replaced with images of the Super Bowl XLVII logo, the NFL Shield, and the NFL's corporate partners. A sterilization of the Superdome and it's surrounding area will begin not long after the Saints play their final true home game (preferably the 2013 NFC Championship Game).

On the surface the Saints playing the Super Bowl in the Dome sounds like a can't lose proposal. Playing under their roof, near their homes, surrounded by their fans, friends, and family. Sounds almost too good to be true? In some ways, maybe it is.

I think this is what the bounty is all about.

Its about New Orleans hosting the SB, the Saints who can get to that stage again, being the 1st team to host the SB in their home stadium.

Then you got replacement refs.................. Hard not to conspire on all that mess when you see whats going on.

If I know the NFL, they going try hard to put 2 huge market teams into that game, possibly 1 or 2 teams that hasnt been in the SB in quite some time.

Lets wait and see if my theory is correct.

When the Saints make it to SB XLVII, all that blabber will be irrelevant.

New Orleans is like NO OTHER place on planet earth, and the WhoDat Nation will let the world know that THEIR Saints are representing the NFC in the big dance!

Instead of 70,000+ Saints faithful packing the Dome, the Saints would play in front of an unfamiliar impartial Superdome crowd. Super Bowl ticket allocation typically breaks down by these estimates:

25% - NFL (corporate sponsors and partners, media, TV networks, charities, fans lottery, VIPs, and the NFLPA )

17% - AFC Champion (season ticket holders can participate in a lottery to buy many of these tickets)

17% - NFC Champion (Saints)

5% - Host franchise (again Saints)

36% - All other NFL franchises"

As soon as the coin hits the turf every swinging Richard in that dome will be pulling for one team or the other.

Which should swing the fan base line this

22% - True Black and Gold Saints fans.

Remaining split will go 50/50 for the sake of this discussion.

Which team (NFC or AFC) is considered the HOME team for this year's SB? Wouldn't it be ironic if the SAINTS do make it to the SB and have to use the visitor's locker room...

Have to secure the #1 seed first, then we can speculate.

I doubt seriously they would relocate to the visitors locker room, and really doubt any team designated as visitors would want to use the saints themed locker room for the super bowl... Talk about broken focus staring at a fleur-de-lis while getting the game face on.

So it will only boil down to who wears dark and who wears light uniforms.

This will be Superbowl 47 and being an odd year the NFC team is the "home team"... It alternates Odd NFC even AFC...

#1 seed doesn't matter in the case of the SB. It will be in new Orleans and if we are in it we will be the home team (NFC is home for odd number SB)

Thanks for the info...I wasn't going to bother looking up who will be the home team.

It's moot since as you say the NFC will be home team this year, but if it wasn't like that and I was the coach of the opposing team, I would make the SAINTS use the visitor's locker room and hang my team's banners over any SAINTS logo's in the room. I'd definitely want to disrupt their rhythm by making them move considering how good they've been at home of late.
