Garcia wins Quarterback Challenge

(July 14, 2002) -- San Francisco's Jeff Garcia rallied to win the final event to come out on top in the DIRECTV PRESENTS THE NFL QUARTERBACK CHALLENGE.

Garcia and New Orleans' Aaron Brooks were tied for the lead with 114 points after three events, but Garcia won the read-and-recognition event with 72 points -- 18 more than Arizona's Jake Plummer and 33 more than Brooks.

Garcia, who also won the competition-opening speed-and-mobility event, finished with 186 points. Brooks, who won the accuracy and long-distance-throw events, finished runner-up with 153. Plummer wound up with 148, Indianapolis' Peyton Manning amassed 130, San Diego's Doug Flutie had 128, and New England's Tom Brady had 108.

It was Garcia's first victory in this event, which has been held each year since 1991.

Two years ago this was an interesting article.

I saw this event event and came away with a lot of optimism about Brooks back then.

I\'m not sure why Billy chose to post this like it was news though.
