Re: What other team...
My problem is that I'm very worried about our defense. Yes, I know we have injuries but we ALWAYS have injuries. On the texans first drive tonight, they went 80 yards and I don't think they had a third down. When the guys announcing the game say things like "the texans are putting on a clinic", you have to worry.

Re: What other team...
last year I was saying the same thing about when we were in man coverage all the time.
Spags has faith in his zone defense, and seeing what he turned the Giants into in his time there; no way we can be as bad as we were last year... |

Without a doubt, his record speaks for itself. He just needs to put his foot up MJ's rear. Those 2 wide open catch's were because MJ was in lala land.

Re: What other team...
I guess I always feel like this before the regular season starts. I rarely make the preseason games so that I have time I can take off to attend the games that matter, so I still haven't seen us play in person yet. There's a heck of a lot of things going on that you miss when you watch the games on TV. I'll know more about our team after watching them in person when we play the redskins.

Re: What other team...
We scored 24 too, and it was against their top ranked defense. I would love to be putting up 48 points on top ranked defenses all year.

I mean these drives where Brees is 6 for 6, where Graham and Pierre and Colston and the rest are clicking, they just march down the field -- those drives look AMAZING from in the stands, when you see everybody spread out.
In person, I felt like the Jacksonville game was, we got punched in the mouth. They just came in and wanted to punch us in the mouth. But after the fumble, Brees had that next drive where he looked insanely good, and it was like 17-10 at the half. But the vibe was that it had completely turned around -- if this was a normal game it really felt to me like the second half would have turned into a typical beatdown, like 31-16 or something. The defense looks pretty terrible in person, but it's still kind of a work in progress. It seems to me like they start out godawful SUCKING, OH GAWD, but then by the time they get a grip on things, second quarter, it gets a LOT harder for the other team's offense, the defense are not sucking quite so bad, and then they fold it up and the 2nd string comes in. Just an impression. |

You remember in Payton's first year with us, we played the Cowboys in preseason and lost something like 31-13, I wanna say? Everyone was freaking out. We went on to make the playoffs and beat those same Cowboys 42-17 along the way. Last year, we got embarrassed by the Texans in the preseason, then beat them in the regular season. There are certain things, like missed tackles and mainly injuries, that you can take away as negatives in these games, but everything else you have to take with a grain of salt. Considering the amount of success we've had, I'll gladly take business as usual... But I do think the defense will be much better this year. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
