A positive way to look at our defensive performance.
Their defense allowed us to score as many points against them as our defense allowed them to score against us when the starters left, and they are considered to be one of the best defenses in the league.I know its more complicated than that, but at the end of the half we were even. We looked very deep, so it looks like there won't be much of a drop offs when players get dinged up. Robinson had a couple of good plays for the most part against Johnson and seemed to keep up with him step for step.. I was very impressed. When we do get our LBers back I think this defense will be much better than last year. We even didn't do to bad against the run toward the end of the half.

Re: A positive way to look at our defensive performance.
I see more of a positive and thats we shut down the run pretty good.
I think our passing defense problems vs Texans I believe was more of the inexperience of the LBers dropping into coverage or missed assignments. The TEs for Houston was running wild. Now the upside to all of this is Andre Johnson had as much problems in our secondary as he did success. This game tells me the only team in the NFC we may have trouble with is the Packers. But then when you get into the officiating problems and the fact that we were missing Sproles on offense, LBers on defense, along with fumbling problems by guys who probably wont see any regular season action except Ivory, you begin to see that the Saints had more of an upper hand in the 24-24 stalemate than the Texans did. What I dont know is our Defense, what has my head spinning a little is the fact Gregg Williams cost us a potential SB berth last year, but if you also look at the 13-3 regular season record, you see several games where either the offense had to come back or the defense managed to stop the opposing offenses comeback bid (Falcons, Panthers, Texans, Titans) to name 4 right there that could of easily made that record 9-7. The question to that is, if Spags was our Defensive coordinator last season, would we of lost those games? Outside the 49ers BS that happened in the playoffs, the defense was pretty clutch when it mattered. This is my question mark going into this season. |

Just one more stop or a FG intead and maybe the majority of these heart attack games will cease... |

But we may not see that until regular season when starters are in the game. backups were clutch tonight in Houston. They wasnt last week vs Jacksonville. |

Re: A positive way to look at our defensive performance.
When you hold the Texans to a net 83 yards rushing its a good day.
When you hole Johnson to 30 yards and no TD's, its a good day. When you hold the Texans Defense to 1 sack... again goof day. 151 yards on the ground... good day. Yesterday... excitable... but good day. |
