this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don't see it either. In fact I've been disappointed in his play.......mostly his tackling. Dive tackles with his head down just isn't going to cut it. The other guys have all shined a little bit....

Re: Patrick Robinson
You guys are playing the "yeah but's".
Deion Sanders is arguably the greatest CB to ever play the game and I promise you every single member of this forum can tackle better than he could, even Saintfan. A CB's job 1st and foremost is coverage. Patrick Robinson has that covered (pun definitely intended). |

But agree with how Danno alluded to Sanders; though I can't call him the greatest corner BECAUSE he couldn't tackle, but definitely top five... If Robinson can "shut down" passing to that side of the field; if Robinson can generate 8-10 interceptions this season; if his coverage has a synergy affect to helping the pass rush; then, I would consider his pick warranted... |

Re: Patrick Robinson
I don't mean to down play the importance of tackling, there's nothing more frustrating than watching the other teams running back blow by your corner's weak attempt at an ankle tackle...
but... Some of the best cover guys in the game are poor tacklers; Nnamdi Asomugha, Chris Gamble, Dominique Rogers-Cromartie are all poor tacklers, Profootballforcus rates Asante Samual as the worst tackler in the NFL and even go so far as to call him the gold standard of tackling inefficiency. (ha ha the falcons suck) It's just really hard to find guys that are fast enough to be good cover guys yet big enough to be good tacklers. Hopefully Robinson will improve his tackling skills. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...fensive-backs/ |

Re: Patrick Robinson
He was owning Andre Johnson for pretty much the whole game. Something that very few CBs in the NFL have been able to do.

Re: Patrick Robinson
Defensive Strategy has changed... Johnson caught 2 balls for 30 yards, one for 19...
new Defense as I have seen it puts more people in the vicinity to assist with tackles. Cant find the preseason stats for missed catches but Robinson broke a few balls up.. What would I rather... Johnson catch 5 and get tackled or Johnson only catching 2 of 5 because Robinson broke them up.. No brainer. |

Re: Patrick Robinson
He has improved, still needs work in certain areas of the game, looks better this season so far though, if he takes care of a few areas he could be great!!

Re: Patrick Robinson
1. Good thread; thanks OP.
2. Robinson appears ready to have a great year, and should have 6+ picks. 3. Don't sell the farm, Ma & Pa... cause he ain't All-World just yet. |

Look, I really hope that Robinson develops into a complete player this season, but I just don't see it right now. He's young and still learning, so there's still time to improve. But just because coverage is "a CB's job 1st and foremost" doesn't mean tackling isn't a really important part of playing defense. p.s. - this was a preseason game right? |
