Bounty gavel could drop any minute now
As the official start of the 2012 regular season approaches, all eyes could quickly be shifting to Louisiana, if Judge Helen G. Berrigan lifts the bounty suspensions of Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma, Saints defensive end Will Smith, Browns linebacker Scott Fujita, and free-agent defensive end Anthony Hargrove.
Judge Berrigan could — and should — make a decision today. A request for a temporary restraining order makes time of the essence. The players believe they’ll be irreparably harmed if they aren’t permitted to play on Sunday. Even if Judge Berrigan disagrees (and her statements at the August 10 hearing in the case suggest that she agrees), she should make a ruling before Sunday. Otherwise, no ruling will operate as a rejection of the motion to lift the suspensions until the case concludes. By waiting, she gives the NFL less time to appeal the decision. The problem is that, with each passing day, the suspended players will miss another practice in preparation for Sunday’s games. If Judge Berrigan has a flair for the dramatic, a decision will come in the next hour, just in time to steal some of the league’s thunder as a new season launches. With the TRO orders the judge made, the decision will not be made until next week at the earliest.
The appeals board should have their ruling released this week. The appeals baord ruling will determine if and when the judge makes a ruling on the TRO requests. The players will have no other recourse under the CBA if the appeals board upholds the league process and punishments. Possibly opening the "legalality" for the judge to issue the TRO and open another legal issue surrounding ALL the suspensions. The players will not be playing this week, but Week 2 is still "up in the air". |

Just watching the build up to tonigjts game.
The UK media following the party line and Whinging a out bounties. Then they speak to a few players. Ray Lewis People talking about things they shouldn't talk about, things should be kept in house. Its not for the public to know about,if they only get half the story it looks bad. When I go out there I go out there to knock you out,we don't try and end careers but I'm going to hit the player with the ball and knock them out. Steven Jackson Wouldn't say much,I tend not to believe what's written and said until I know all the facts. |
