Dempsey's 63 yrd FG record broken?
Did I just hear that right on SF game?
Not broken , but tied. San Francisco 49ers: Akers' 63-yard field goal sends 49ers into halftime with a 16-7 lead over the Green Bay Packers - San Jose Mercury News I just turned on the 49's game and thought I heard that. Records are made to be broken. We all had wished that Morten Anderson would have done so during his Saints years. Sort of keep it in the Saints ' family. |

From what I heard the record was tied, 63, which Jason Elam (Denver I believe) had already done. I could be wrong tho. It said "63" on the screen as I watched him kick it. It will be all over the highlight shows if he broke it.

Impressive! I have been on a practise field with two kickers who were hitting 65 yard fieldgoals and it really is a sight to behold.

it will be broken eventually - but how many major records have stood for so long?
40 years? I am sure that who ever breaks the record - it will not stand nearly as long, But the thing I admire about the record is - bot just that it was one of the most thrilling moments in sports history, or that it was achieved by a disabled person - but that he was strictly speaking - an average kicker. He was an "everyman" proving that on sometimes we can all rise to the occasion. |
