Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Along the way Spagnuolo adopted his formula for success, built on what he calls the Four Pillars: Faith. Character. Core Values. Team First.
He relied on those attributes early in the 2007 season, Spagnuolo’s first as the Giants’ coordinator. Having given up 80 points in a 0-2 start to the regular season, Spagnuolo met with the defensive players before Week 3. Michael Strahan, the Giants’ future Hall of Fame defensive end, remembered the moment. “Spags came into the room and said, ‘I want you guys to trust and believe in the system. Believe in the game plan and what I’m telling you to do. I know we haven’t had as much success as we’d like, but the system works. Trust it. I want you to know that I would not trade any player in here for anybody else. I want to do this with you guys.’ “For us,” said Strahan, “that made us feel like, ‘This guy cares for us. This guy will go to battle for us. This guy will stand up for us.’ We turned it around. We trusted him and it worked.” The Giants recovered to win 15 of their next 18 regular-season and postseason games and capped their improbable run with the dramatic Super Bowl victory over the previously unbeaten Patriots. Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I'm sure there's a few players he'd trade in a second and maybe even a few he'd love to cut.

Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I don't know if I can stand to lose to Cam Newton next week as ugly as we lost today. Spags better get this ship right quick.
|
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I be glad to get rid of these running QBs we keep running into.
That is one problem we had today. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I don't know... he didn't seem to take off as much as I thought he might.
|
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Not but he could of, my issue was he is able to roll out of the pocket so easily all game long and Spags never adjusted to keeping him in the pocket.
This is where I begin to question Spags as a D-Coordinator or any type of coach. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Yeah, but in the Giants he was talking to a group of guys who were capable of playing football at a high level.
|
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Different set of personnel; our starting defensive ends are fat, slow...
Giants had leaner, faster defensive ends... And they always seem to be able to find safeties that could cover... But even if we did have great safeties right now, we have no pass rush to make it all work together... |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
But you got to remember we had DE's going after RGIII plenty times in that game.
The problem was he is a scrambling QB, you dont find that every week and to that extent except from maybe 3 guys, whom we face all this season, thats Newton, Vick, RGIII. Otherwise we would of have 5-6 sacks in that game. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Definitely have to improve in the tackle department. Harper is one of the only players that jumps out who tackled well yesterday.
|
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Problem was team motivation and on field leadership. Vilma is in street clothes and Kromer looked like he was scared to death standing there.
|
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I can live with the bad defensive play BUT the "O" looked like crap.
Drew had 2 ints BUT he should have had 3 more. Drew looked uncomfortable the whole game. The O line sucked, the running game sucked - Colston fumbled away ANOTHER BALL in ANOTHER opening day game. Colston is becoming a pain in the buttocks. He was good for a few years but at the start of the season(s) he is becoming a major obstruction to a good team |

Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
We weren't able to help Spags with the draft this year. Good ol' Rog. screwed us because we didn't worship his loin cloth. Godhell took away any chance that Spags had. We're having to play football while hand cuffed and dragging a dead body behind us on the field. I know we need at least one quality tackle to help Drew but dang, we need someone to get pressure on the QB. That player isn't on the roster yet.

Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I still want to know why the best pass rushing DTs we have (Hicks & Walker) weren't even activated for Sunday's game....I know Hicks is raw but he seemed knowledgable enough to pressure the QB with his pure strength.

With the way our defense has ALWAYS played, you'd think they'd never played the game before. |

Learning what to do comes quick, making the new scheme come reactionary takes time.... They don't have time to stop and think which is what they are doing now. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Spags was only 1/3 the problem vs Washington
|
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Game one. There's a lot of football left to be played.

You say "the scheme" like it was ever ranked higher than 2/3s in the NFL and had a good year. Rankings: Notice our best years are when the Defense sucks? 24th in 2011 <-- got us to 13-3? 4th in 2010 25th in 2009 <---- got us 13 straight and a SB? Surely when you say "the scheme" you mean our offense? Our success is directly related to the success of our offense. Drink all the kool aid you want... it will not change. |

Tim Tebow could have completed the majority of the passes he threw on Sunday. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Spags readied his defense for the screens and running game but forgot RG3 has the capability to pass down the field and do it well and when he did he made it look easy which had me seriously concerned for the season, spags seemed to stick to his guns and only adjusted when we fell far behind.
If we don't come out ready for Cam next week I think we can chaulk up the season as the worst offseason and reg season since katrina. |

The defense was pretty bad, at the bottom in pass defense despite the draft picks and the overpay at the Strong Safety position... |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
That defense gave up more plays > 20 yards than are allowed to get any sort of "credit".
|
Greg Williams schemes you say? Greg Williams great defense you say?
Marshawn Lynch I say..... |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
Look, that streak last season had zippo to do with the defense. Our offense was pretty-much flawless at times and we outscored teams most of the time.
Had our offense played up to their abilities last Sunday it would have been a totally different game. And losing Meachum had zero to do with it because he's not blocking on the line. Drew had defenders in his face and the o-line played poorly at best. What I saw Sunday didn't have anything to do with Gregg Williams as his defense was weak at best. If anything, our secondary was having a hangover from last season (looking the same or a little worse) where they looked the same and the run defense looked improved. Again, if anyone is going to point fingers, point them at that o-line that looked sorry and sad last Sunday. Drew throwing that INT didn't help either. PS where is Jabari Greer? Again, he's out and coverage in the secondary is weak. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
As ugly as Sunday was, on both sides of the ball,
1 or 2 plays turning out differently, and it could have been just another UGLY win. The mental mistakes were brutal. If we clean that up we'll be fine. Keeping the entire team focused for all 4 quarters was Sean Payton's job. He did it VERY well. His absence is showing in the discipline department. I hope these other guys (Kromer, Spags, Carmichael, ...) can get a handle on all the loose ends that keep getting snagged. |

Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I'm not worried just yet from what ive seen in the preseason our defense wasnt perfect (yet again without Greer). The skins game wouldve been different if you throw in Greer, a vet among the other corners. I wonder why Hicks didnt play and why don't they start Martez dammit. But all in all that game and every game here on is something to learn from whether good or bad.
Let us win the SB this year.. that'll calm people down for sure! |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
PASS:Griffin III 19-26, 320 yds, 2 tds (Rookie)
RUSH:Morris 28 car, 96 yds, 2 tds (Rookie) REC:Garcon 4 rec, 109 yds, 1 td Offensive line was pretty bad, oh wait these stats are against the defense. We made 2 rookies look like there ready for the HOF.Offense probably didn't have there best game but defense was a lot worse, not to mention Redskins has a pretty stout defense and we still scored 32 pts on a day when they weren't at there best. This was just the first game hopefully they can get it straightened out and everyone can be happy again. |
Re: Hopefully this will calm people down!!
I honestly thought our Defense stopped the run better than I have seen them in a while.
3.4 ypc for Morris is not stellar. |
