He knew how much the Saints relied on Payton, so that is why he went for the kill shot with the season-long suspension!

The Saints should have just forfeited the season and screwed it up for Goodell

I got to hand it to him. Not only Payton, but the 6 game suspension of Vitt in the first six weeks was a master stroke, makes sure the season will be just effed up enough to cripple the team, eliminate the team from the Super Bowl, but still not effed up enough that it really points the finger back at Goodell at the end of the day. He is getting exactly what he wanted, punishing Benson and the Saints fans for supporting Payton. Vitt comes back, the Saints will look respectable, but it will probably/possibly be too little too late.
