this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Here's SOMETHING ELSE for optimism, that I was thinking about this morning. Besides just sitting around saying "man, we suck." OK. So Coach Vitt is suspended for 6 games. That sucks. Do you think he is backpacking through Thailand right ...

Something Else For Optimism, Maybe
Here's SOMETHING ELSE for optimism, that I was thinking about this morning. Besides just sitting around saying "man, we suck."
OK. So Coach Vitt is suspended for 6 games. That sucks. Do you think he is backpacking through Thailand right now, do you think he is puttering around his house in his bathrobe doing nothing? OF COURSE NOT. He will be sitting there with his Red Zone, his TIVO, his DVR. and his deluxe NFL.com "Game Rewind" package, which features the 22's -- the coaches' footage of all 22 players from overhead, top view, end zone view, FOR EVERY GAME. You can buy this now. For every game, every team. Think about it. Vitt can sit there on his couch with his notepad and watch every snap of Falcons football, 100 times each, if he wants to. He can study every scheme and play and formation of every team that we are going to face on his 10 games of the schedule, as the season goes on, from now until the day he comes back. Denver, SF, all these teams we're so skeered of right now. Most teams' coaches simply don't have that kind of time to prepare and watch film, of THIS year's games. Most coaches have to go through the season and fine tune their preparations for each team, one game at a time, crammed into the week or two weeks before they install the scheme and gameplan for that game. They usually get other people to watch the film for them, and then those assistants will draw their attention to stuff. But Vitt has NOTHING TO DO but sit there hunkered down and watch film of the Saints and their opponents, and prepare for coaching those ten games -- the stretch of Denver, Philly, Atlanta, Niners, Giants, and the remaining divisional games. I think that this has to be worth something, no? We won't know until we get there but I have this feeling that he is gonna come back to coaching well prepared and loaded for bear on every little detail of these teams we have to face. |

Re: Something Else For Optimism, Maybe
I've seen absolutely nothing in preseason or in the first two games that make me think that we can win any games other than garbage games at the end of the season, which will just hurt us in the draft. With all that's going against us, it wouldn't bother me if we pulled a "colts" and deliberately lost them all.

Calm down all is well. When Spags was with the Giants. His first two game his D gave up over 80 points. They went on to win a Super Bowl that year.

Hope so, hope we make our run at the end of the of the season like the Giants did last year and the Packers the year before.

Oh if it stayed the same, I'd absolutely agree with you, poydras. If nothing changed, I'd have us at 5-11 at best. But our coaching changes in 4 weeks, and trust me, Joe Vitt > Aaron Kromer. They are not the same AT ALL.

I just can't understand how Kromer was the best choice? I hate second guessing, especially now, but Jeez Louise...He is awful, sounds terrible in front of the media, we just seem so lost w/ him at the helm!

Re: Something Else For Optimism, Maybe
The only optimism I need is: At some point in the near future Spags scheme will click with the players and we'll see some improvement.
Hell; It could be this Sunday against the Chiefs. Now that we don't have to worry about the option for awhile... |

Re: Something Else For Optimism, Maybe
One thing I think we'll see when Vitt gets back is some passion from this team. I think Vitt is doing exactly what the OP thinks and if that isn't enough, you can bet Payton is coming up with a whole new ball game when he comes back next year. The rest of the league should be very worried about that.
