Stop punishing me. The Fan
Roger Goodell,
Its time to transition from High School and College in regards to the punishment of players. It is time to look at the NFL as a business. Ill preface this with a little insight into the present day NFL. This is not a business where you are disciplining an employee and it is not hurting your "business". Is punishing your revenue base the appropriate way of going about disciplining an employee? I will bet you anyone attending a Community College perusing a degree in Business Management or Marketing will tell you that method is absurd. Yet, the NFL continues to punish its customers for the activities of its employees. You have punished me Roger, I am your customer. This off season you chose to discipline 1/32nd of your revenue base (I am not digging into the real % of the NFL's revenue stream that the Saints represent, so for the sake of argument ill go with 1/32nd). Your intent: You intended to severely punish Coaches and players for actions that you say happened. The reality: The collateral damage from your actions punished an entire teams fan base and a few college players as well (I will get into that later). You have turned the season for the Saints fan upside down, and for what reason? We did not do anything to you or the league Roger, we support our team. Your actions are those of a person bent on revenge and not processing their tertiary effects. Suspensions may hurt a player, but they definitely hurt the fans. A game loss because of a lack of a player is a big deal to the fans, a season upside down because you suspended a head coach hurts the fans. We are not your kindergarten class, we the fans are the backbone of the NFL, without our interest and revenue you have no league and no job. Draft picks: You take away a few draft pics. There is a sizable difference in pay between first and second round picks, so you just hindered the ability of innocent college athletes by guaranteeing that a player that may have gone in the first round will have to go in the second round by reducing the picks from 32 to 31. Why do you find it so difficult to reprimand players with out hurting the fans? There are plenty of ways you could have done that with out hurting the fans, Ill list a few for you. Fines: Quadruple the fines, hell fine them an entire seasons pay, I don't care... But don't hurt the fans by keeping the player from doing his job. Community Service: 1000 hours of community Service that has to be completed with in 60 days between the hours of 5pm and 10 pm on week days, means that players can practice, travel, and play.... While also doing something worth while for the community. Suspend a players endorsements: You figure out how to do it, I don't care... Stop punishing me... the fan. I am sure you have seen that Sean Payton sign stating "Do your job"... Well Roger, do your damned job, protect the NFL's customers. At this point I do not care who did or didn't do what, you just need to stop punishing your customers. In closing, I will give you a little insight into what it would be like to have this done to you. I am sure you like cable or satellite TV Roger, so lets say the person or persons responsible for making sure your signal is not interrupted show up for work late continuously. I hope your subscriber suspends those employees for 6 months thus leaving you with nothing to watch. Sounds unfair doesn't it? Stop punishing me Roger. The Fan |

One has to wonder how this would of been handled if it was New England that was accused of a bounty program... I'm betting just fines.

Nice rant there 626. I hope you find a way to get it to He Who Shall Not Be Named.
Also, so far, I'm sticking to the only way I can punish the NFL...A pledge a lot of us took earlier thi year. I haven't bought a single NFL related item, nor do intend to. |
