Question for the Forum
Just how long exactly is Sean Payton's suspension?
Is it a simple one-season, as long as the Saints are playing, or will he have to ask the league for re-instatement? I can imagine that if it is simply as long as the Saints are playing, that Payton will be back in his office at Saints camp before the echo of the final whistle fades! |

Re: Question for the Forum
Saints Head Coach Sean Payton is suspended without pay for the 2012 NFL season, effective April 1. News agencies keep changing that to 1 year which is incorrect. 1 year would be April 1 2013.
He still has to be reinstated by Goddell though. Which is why he is quiet. |

Re: Question for the Forum
As I remember it, the reinstatement and next year's #2 pick are all contingent on Sean and Mickey behaving and actually staying out of the business this year which obviously has been the case. Considering how the punishment for a crime that every team commits in one form or another has already cost our team and our fans an entire season, one would think that reinstatement would come right after the Super Bowl, assuming goodell survives a week in New Orleans.

Re: Question for the Forum
I remember something along the lines "after the super bowl". However he does have to request to be reinstated IIRC. That is what ensures his silence and to me is horsesh*t!!

Re: Question for the Forum
Goodell has moved the goalposts on Payton's suspension the same way he has moved the goalposts with everything else in this whole mess. Jamessr is correct, FIRST it was "after the Super Bowl," then when Payton started cutting up and making a mockery of it, riding around in the golf cart with Parcells and giving interviews at charity events, playing bongos with Jimmy Buffett, etc., the Commish changed it to "must apply to be reinstated." So at first it was one year, now it is the same exact punishment as Gregg Wiliams, for doing completely different things.
