A couple of bright spots

Listen guys, I'm not trying to be a downer or anything, I'll still watch every game of the season and support our team, but I think this season may well be a wash for us and we'll end up with a top ten pick

That being said, there were some positives that came out of the game yesterday;

Akiem Hicks is ALREADY better than Sed Ellis - 8 tackles by a backup DT, he should be starting, he was getting a great push and kept forcing jamaal Charles to run backwards where every player was there to tackle him

We finally got a little bit of pressure, but cassel had way too much time back there, the sacks occurred after 5-6 seconds in the pocket, give galette credit for having a constant motor and getting two sacks and a forced fumble

Jabari Greer gave us a boost with a great read and held onto the ball with the pick

At the end of the game we actually stopped the run really well, it was just miles too late, we just couldn't stop the pass and brees couldn't move the ball if his salary depended on it

We could rebound a go a win streak and ill be happier than anybody if we do, but I don't think it will be a good season for us unless something changes rapidly

Until then ill still show up and support our team every week

Feel free to write about anything you saw, hopefully positive points lol

Re: A couple of bright spots

Hicks showed great pontential yesterday. Saw flashes of Tom Johnson too.

DBs were hitting the Chiefs WRs hard. It didn't net us much yesterday but I still feel its a positive going foward. I wanna see opposing WRs have "crocodile arms" when coming over our middle.

Short**** had a good game catching the ball.

I've seen worse as a Saints fan. But, you are an optimist of the highest degree. 0-3 to three teams whose only wins came against the Saints. Two of those games being home games. Bad coaching. Worse playcalling. Poor execution. An overall lack of passion. Can they turn it around and sneak into the playoffs at 9-7? Sure. Is it likely either will happen? Very doubtful. But, I will be watching and cheering and hoping. WHO DAT!

Re: A couple of bright spots

This is going to be a weird season, I mean, look at all the upsets in Weeks 2 & 3 ... if Jacksonville, Tennessee, KC, Minnesota () and Oakland can all have good weeks, so will the Saints. I'm just going to assume this is no longer my father's NFL and that parity in the league has turned every week into a crapshoot. The Saints struggling without Payton was to be expected ... not this much, but still some. Watching how they overcome these obstacles and return to their winning ways is just going to have to be reward enough for now.

I thought Hicks had a good game too. Ellis has to get cut at the end of the year. I like Cam Jordan too. Interested to see Wilson some more

Re: A couple of bright spots

I'm just as frustrated as anyone. But the way I look at it, it's really two seasons within the one season. When Joe Vitt comes back I promise you it WILL get better. Maybe not enough to salvage the season, but at least it will look more presentable out there, less trainwrecks and ****ups. Right now people are outside the window, on the ledge, but I really think the team will start to look more Saints-like, once he gets back. At least watching the games won't be quite so agonizing, I hope.

It's weird because the normal "story line" is that teams lose their coach for whatever reason in mid-season, and then they tank under the interim coach for the rest of the year. We're cratering NOW, under the interim-interim coach, but then we get the interim coach back, the GM back, hopefully players back, etc. So hopefully this is the worst of it. We are missing an awful lot of pieces to the puzzle right now. It's like our Achilles tendon has been cut and then somebody chopped off our right arm.

I agree with everything you said EXCEPT.."we actually stopped the run pretty well"???????? Are you kidding me? If stopping the run well means giving up 225 yards rushing to one guy, then we are screwed! Everything else you said is spot on though.

91 of those yards came because of a bearhug on Martez Wilson that wasn't called. He would have made the tackle for no gain. The regular officials likely call that hold.

Re: A couple of bright spots

I will support this team to my dying day because they supported my city when it was down and getting kicked pretty hard by the national media after Katrina. Remember "no one should ever live in New Orleans ever again" comments? Yeah well, those hurt esp. the people who lived here and had no choice but to return here.

Saints turned their nose on all that and returned a success story. I'll support them no matter what.

That said, here are the bright spots:

-DB's did play a ton better yesterday, although inconsistent - I felt they were WAY out of position on the last few drives, but I blame SPAGS for that.
-Defensive line did indeed get pressure at times yesterday. We were much better against the pass than the run. Although inconsistent, there were signs of a heartbeat.
-Greer's turnover was a huge boost for the psyche of the defense, he held onto it. They can jump routes and they can make turnovers happen.
-For a short while I saw our offense light on fire. That fire burned out, but it proved to me they're still together (mentally), just not inspired or well coached.

The truly bad is the team feels the heat from fans and the self-doubt. If ever there was a rally-cry for this team, Kromer, the interim staff, everyone - now is the time. Going into Green Bay and winning may be improbably, and that's why it would be that much sweeter if they did it.
