So here is my Jarvis Jones thread with a twist...........how does the best offense over the past 3 years rack up -14 yards in the fourth quarter? Answer: a piss poor excuse for an offensive line. Both tackles need to be replaced as neither can stop an elite pass rusher and they get consistently beat by blitzing LBs. I say we trade down from our top ten pick and select a Jake Loeckle type getting some extra picks in the process to load up on defense later in the draft.
Have I given up on the season? Not until we are mathematically out, but it is hard to defend a team that held a 24-6 lead in the second half. |

As much as the offensive line is to blame, Drew and Carmichael deserves the same amount of criticism. You don't take 7 step drops from the shotgun formation without getting rid of the ball. This happened about a handful of times... which yielded a couple of sacks and bad throws. This game is all about adjustments. If the line isn't blocking well, call some plays to help mask it's deficiencies. More screen plays, more running plays, more two TE sets, more quick slants and/or dump offs. The don't like how the line is the primary scapegoat. They all play a part in... equal blame to go around. |

Re: Jarvis Jones
I agree with the offensive adjustments. If the defense is getting constant pressure from a LB, and you have Sproles and Thomas, why not run some screen plays. Also, if the defense is playing a deep cover 2 why aren't we running quick outs and slants to free up the play over the top. It makes no sense. This offense should never go -14 yards in a quarter. When you are up 24-21 in the fourth, there is no need to pass the ball. All of our backs had fresh legs, run them. I stand by my draft statement but this is def a play calling issue.

Re: Jarvis Jones
I agree we need better OT's but if we get a very high draft pick we need to look at getting Drew's replacement. Some things to consider: Is Drew better this year than he was last year?? No, not so far. Is Drew getting older?? At 33, it's a cinch he ain't gettin any younger. Will his skills diminish as he gets older?? Definitely. If we've got 3 good years left from Drew, we need his replacement on the roster next year and our draft position may facilitate us doing that because if we right the ship, we won't have another chance for at least 2-3 more years. We can get upgrades at OT and DL in rounds 3,4,&5.
