Just the facts....
2 Redzone trips against GB and you only get 6 points, you lose.
1st and goal on the one, you don't even attempt to punch it in behind the FB? Not even 1 dive just to play smashmouth football is failing in epic proportions. One thing is for sure, unless Loomis fires Carmichael and Kroemer they'll be with us for the foreseeable future. They aren't making improvements to their resumes with the play calling/coaching in these games. I don't see anyone unless they are really desperate hiring them away. I think in their primary roles they're good but without Payton running things and making the hard calls they show some lack of the "it" factor to be the HC (at least for now). The Def line.....what Def line? An O-line that gave up 7 sacks in one half a week ago should be susceptible to at least 1 sack or some assemblance of pressure that affects the QB. Zero, zip, nada.....we scare nobody with our men in the trenches. That's not Spags fault, that's a roster issue and has to be addressed in the off season. I'm thinking Sed Ellis is done and we need to move on, Bunkley isn't overly impressive, Smith is aging, Jordan shows some flashes but lacks consistency. We only have 1 starting CB, the rest, sorry, just sorry. Props to Robinson for the good pick but one little bright moment fails to outshine the sheer utter confusion he normally shows while in coverage. On a bright note, no turnovers (albeit because of a blown call on a kickoff)! Our Def will persist the way it is because of the personnel, our Off may fire at all times and pull some victories out but unless someone flips a switch and makes things happen magically it will be a long season of not shocking losses. |
Re: Just the facts....
The defensive scheme is horrible. DB's never bump anybody at the line and always give way too much cushion. The offensive playcalling is equally bad. On the rare occasion a run is called, it's on first down. The substitutions at RB, where none of the RB's gets more than one play in a row, is ridiculous. As far as Personnel goes, Jenkins should be moved to CB in nickel and dime situations with Quddus coming in. Hicks should start over Ellis. Ivory should get a shot. Shanle and Herring should be cut. I don't care if they play someone off the street. I'm tired of watching them not make plays. Their replacements can't be any worse. They might accidentially make a play or two.

I remember the same thing happening last season. Maybe our CBs just aren't capable of playing bump and run. |
Re: Just the facts....
Maybe we should trade mark Ingram to the cardinals for Patrick Peterson!
Hell yeah! Lol |

I've been blaming the D for the past 3 weeks, but yesterday was a complete TEAM failure.
Major screwups in all three phases of the game... |
Re: Just the facts....
The DB's are the only part of the defense that are playing. And they are playing with one LB and no defensive line pressure. They are behind the eight ball before the game even starts.

Re: Just the facts....
Lofton and Greer are the bright spots on defense.

They at least looked competitive for most of the game. We are now officially in a rebuilding phase. What can we get on defense in a trade for Drew Brees?

Re: Just the facts....
Sedrick Ellis, Broderick Bunkley, Cameron Jordan, and Will Smith are all 1st round picks and get 0 pressure. There's a humdinger.

Re: Just the facts....
Just exactly who has everyone been watching the last few seasons? Our defense and special teams have been points of contention for years.

Remember Marshawn Lunch.. We were not worried about pressure on the QB after that season. |
Re: Just the facts....
Ngata and Wilfork are big DTs that get pressure. Seems like Ellis would be able to push someone back once in a while.

Re: Just the facts....
I think Sean Payton is more like Bill B. in New England. His assistants are a product of him. He is a micro manager. My buddy played safety at Lsu and he was describing the difference between Miles and Saban. Miles is a figurehead, like the Queen of England. He will always have good players because he is a good recruiter and because of his name. Miles is not a great in game coach and is a product of his coordinators. If his coordinators suck then he will underachieve. Nick Saban is a micro manager and if his coordinators suck you will never know because Sabans hand is in everything and it's his designs and his plays. If his coordinators leave Alabama remains exactly the same. When coordinators change at LSU it's like a whole different team. New plays new strategy. If you lose the puppetmaster (Payton) the puppets don't dance. IF you lose him it's harder to pick up the pieces if you lose Miles you will see no change or you may get better. Sorry it is off the subject. But it is true. I think Parcells was more of a figurehead who let his knew how to surround himself with the right people and was a great disciplinarian.
