Bobby Hebert is known as the Cajun Cannon, and he had just begun his postgame radio show Sunday night when he landed the latest detonation on the New Orleans Saints this season.
"We have no pass rush," Hebert, a former Saints quarterback, said on WWL. "We'll never have a pass rush. Right now some fans are hoping Gregg Williams will come out of nowhere, bounty and all, because right now the defense is pathetic." The Saints' problems, after an 0-4 start, go much deeper than just the lack of a pass rush, although installing a new defense without the appropriate personnel would have stressed the Saints under the best of circumstances. The problem is NOT the offense, the problem is the defense! The opponents run through our defense like through a wet tissue. It is too easy for them to make yards on us.
Ok, the offense is not really perfect, they drop the ball too often. Also, if a team knows how to hinder Brees from passing we look poor, too. But with a great QB like Brees this is not really the problem. The defense has to get better.... MUCH better! As far as I remember we started every game being down one touchdown. This does not help any.... |

Re: Burden of propping up team is on Brees
As much as I hate to agree with Bobby, he seems to know something that many members have forgotten... With the exception of a handful of years a decade or so ago.. We have never had a pass rush and have only had one season when our defense wasn't in the bottom 20.
To have a bad defense this year really should not be alarming or new to anyone. |
