this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I was actually at the game so I didn't get to see the replays but no matter what, the refs reset it all back to zero with the 5 yard automatic first down penalty....

Re: Refs?
I'm not saying that the Chargers would have won if not for those calls but those were two awesome completions and Rivers is known for coming back in situations like that.
Both of those calls were horrible. Even the commentators said that. No, I'm not making excuses. Best bet would be to not let the team get into a situation like that. |

Re: Refs?
I literally read an article today about how Rivers was known for coming back in those situations (pre 2010), but in 2010, 2011, and 2012 he has actually been far worse...not saying he couldn't have come back, just that the statistics say it would have been unlikely.

Re: Refs?
Bolts, I feel your pain. We've been screwed by the refs and now so have you. Everyone is going to get the short end of the stick some time.

Re: Refs?
Rivers like Brees has a propensity to throw picks when trying to come back under duress.

Re: Refs?
I try really hard to side with the refs. They miss some. It's a fast game and Roger keeps on adding BS stuff they are asked to make split-second determinations on. Their job is subjective. There will always be controversy.
The hit on Drew that negated the INT. That's Roger's NFL. They're calling them for and against every team. That's just the way it is now. It sucks. Sometimes it's BS. Doesn't matter. That's just how Roger wants the games managed. I do side with the Bolts on the Offensive PI call on Gates. That was a complete crap call, but it's not why the Chargers lost. |

Re: Refs?
Drew Brees was very outspoken on Twitter about the scab refs after the Seattle/Packers game fiasco. He called out Goodell on it and really raised hell. Now the regular refs are back, and whattaya know, we've had two games in a row with calls "going our way" including one call directly related to Drew himself that negated a sure interception. Heck, I'll take it.
