Archie was the face of the Saints, and put the franchise on the map. There should be a statue of Archie outside the Superdome. There should have been a float in the Super Bowl Parade for the Mannings, even though Peyton was our opponent. Once XLIV was over, I was, again, a fan of
Peyton Manning. Im also happy for Eli Manning and his well deserved Super Bowl Rings. I hope people remember Cooper's exploits on the field, before he was forced to retire early. I hope he is successful now. And Olivia Manning has a graceful elegance befitting a First Lady.
Archie used to be the color commentator for Saints Radio, as his popularity was huge for years after he was traded to the Oilers. Also I remember a fan party -- the "Official Who Dat Fan Club-- who's president was Pete Fountain -- a fan party in the Hilton, Riverside--- huge ballroom, Benson was there shaking hands, so were the Saintsations. Well Archie showed up
to speak, and in 1988, fans still chanted "Archie! Archie! Archie!
The Mannings are a family of winners, and they represent the Gulf South well, starting with Archie. I would like to see Archie get the love and respect he deserves.
I guess what I'm trying to find out is why nobody ever wanted either of Archie's kids to play for the Saints...or am I wrong about that. It is also possible that it is just a Manning thing. You either love 'em or hate 'em. So many people say the same thing regarding looks and demeanor. I just thought it was an interesting topic...that's all.
