And the Emmy Goes to......
We've all heard about the "new" and "improved" defense this year. Who knows how they will play this year, but one thing is certain. And that is the Saints coaches and front office deserve an Emmy for the sales job they have accomplished this off-season. Going into the off-season, the linebacker and cornerback positions were the most criticized areas on the team. Most fans were certain ONE of the areas would be addressed properly in the off-season. But we waited and watched as every marquee player was signed by another team. Fans were mad has hell that we didn't land any of those guys. Even to the point were some season ticket holders swore they wouldn't renew their tickets!! Maybe some folks had Brian Young and Jason Craft pegged as top players to be signed. My hunch is NOBODY even knew much about either one. But attention quickly turned to the draft. Vilma was the one everyone wanted or DeAngelo Hall or one of the other top CB's. Now, there could have been SOMEONE here starting Will Smith and Courtney Watson "threads", but I can't recall them. Again, everyone was as mad as hell about the draft. But, since the draft we have gotten - HYPE - HYPE - HYPE- I guess it does a body good!! Had yours today? Going once? Going twice? Sold to the guy with the Saints "goggles" on!! The Saints have to be commended for bringing all the Saints fans back to the optimistic side. But, then again, they do it every year. Even me. I expect us to be a playoff team My vote for the Emmy goes to Jim Haslett and the Saints front office. [Edited on 11/8/2004 by GumboBC] |

My emmy would go to Sedrick Hodge for his portrayal of an NFL linebacker.

Billy, some of us were on the Will Smith bandwagon. I don\'t recall who else but I remember posting that if Vilma/DJ/Hall/Dunte were all gone I\'d be happy with a stud that dropped like a Will Smith. I remember several agreed with me.
As for Watson, I\'ll admit I knew nothing of him, or just about any other MLB not named Vilma. Since most of us aren\'t scouts we had no idea how good he was. But after the shock of not getting a 1st round LB most of us did some digging on this Watson kid and found out he was much more heralded than most of us knew. MLB\'s aren\'t exactly the top LB\'s drafted. Most quality MLB\'s land in the 2nd/3rd rounds. The more I read about Watson the more I became convinced he was an excellent pick and it had absolutely nothing to do with Haslett or Loomis hyping him. Forget it Billy, the Moonshiners will never let you in. But I know you\'ll keep trying. |

Billy - glad you can finally see hype for what it is. I\'ll give you props for not getting caught up in it again this year. Saying this team will go to the playoffs is not getting caught up IMO. Suggesting that there is no other alternative is.
