Regardless, it is foolish to suggest Harper isn't a horrible cover man, when the entire NFL and it's fans know he is. Why do you think he's always up at the line of scrimmage? |

Re: Nolan Nawrocki - Why we need this guy
Harper may not be quite as bad in coverage as everyone says he is but here's the problem... He's an old school strong safety. In today's pass happy NFL the SS needs to be equally adept in pass coverage as anything else. So it's just a matter of Harper being damn good by traditional SS standards, but with the way the game has changed, he might not be ideal against offenses that air it out.

Re: Nolan Nawrocki - Why we need this guy
There you go again. A 3-4 word sentence telling me I'm wrong. How am I wrong? Is it not a fact that Gregg Williams used Harper as a blitz specialist? and now it appears that Spagnuolo is catching on to the fact that this is the only way to use him aswell. These aren't simply pundits going around saying this... I'm going strictly by what I have seen with my own eyes.
I am perfectly willing and able to comprehend the facts about Roman Harper, and the truth is that he can't cover. He is consistently out of position, and has no speed to make up for mistakes. He does ok at covering tight ends every now and then, though even then he still manages to get burned at some point during the game. But covering a TE should be a linebacker's job. It further proves my original point that if you're going to bring your SS way up in order to keep him from being exposed, then he needs to be moved to linebacker or be cut. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
