Are we affected by away games or outside games the same way we were last year?

I don't think so. Our defense has been equally bad inside or outside this year.

Re: Are we affected by away games or outside games the same way we were last year?
This is actually a bit of a myth and people have broken it down with stats, and the Saints under Sean Payton actually have one of the best road records among current coaches in the league.
The Saints lost at Tampa Bay last year because Coach HAD A FREAKING BROKEN LEG HALFWAY THROUGH THE GAME, we were dominating the game up until that exact moment, no trend or stat or curse had anything to do with that. There have been plenty of times the Saints have laid an egg at home (Browns, Colts opener in '07, Falcons game with Hartley's missed kick, etc) and there have been plenty of amazing Saints wins on the road and outdoors (Cincinatti, SF on Monday Night in '10, Miami in '09). Plenty of road game blowouts too (Tampa Bay, Carolina, Minnie, I could go on). We hung 30+ on the vaunted SF defense in the playoffs, outdoors, just came up a little short at the end. There is nothing in the Saints road record for them to be ashamed of. If you look at the average point totals, the road slows down the Saints offense by usually less than a touchdown, it's like 5 points less or something. |

And I also remember reading that Payton has one of the best road records in the NFL since he became coach. Edit: Last year, tied for 2nd best road record at 5-3. Since Payton arrived we're 25-18 on the road in the regular season (and that includes a 2-6 mark in 2008) for a 58% win percentage. That translates to a 9-7 season if we played every game on the road. 11-5 if you conveniently ignore 2008. |
