The other thing I like to mention about Freeh is that (a) he caught the Unabomber by basically setting a trap and then laying back quietly and letting him give himself enough "rope" to "hang himself" with, to expose his identity, and (b) in the Penn State investigation, Freeh actually found a "smoking gun" email about Sandusky from 2004 that had been missed by prosecutors the first time around, so the man is very thorough and patient.

I know that lately the media has said of Freeh "he caught the unabomber", but the unabomber was caught because his brother turned him in. Before that, the FBI wasn't aware Ted Kaczynski even existed.

As for the OP, I don't think anyone outside the Saints organization knows what the scope of the Freeh report actually is

Yup. I don't want to get into a huge discussion of it here, but the Unabomber was caught because they published his "manifesto" which he had been asking them to publish, which his brother then recognized the ideas in the "manifesto" as sounding like his brother. Freeh was involved in the decision to publish the "manifesto" and put it out there. But you're right -- I don't want to make it sound like Freeh single handedly tracked him down in his cabin and put the cuffs on the guy all by himself, he didn't do that, but the putting the manifesto out there was a decision to try and give the (unknown) guy what he wanted, and then let him sink himself by putting all his information and ideas out there at once.... His brother had previously suspected it might be Ted, but then recognized the writing style in the paper and was instantly like "OH ____, that's got to be him."

I don't want to get into this here either , but the publishing of the manifesto wasn't this clever trap either. The unambomber told the FBI he would stop the bombings if the Washington Post published his manifesto.
