DENVER — If it hadn’t already, a reality should bet setting in now.
The New Orleans Saints, the ones you’ve become accustomed to over the past few seasons, are no longer around. No one has to tell you this is not a good football team. The 2-5 record does that. Sunday night in Denver, the Saints’ reality came crashing down from a Mile High altitude It falsely sat on through most of October. The score was 34-14 but it felt worse. The Saints were outgained by 278 yards but it felt worse. New Orleans was on 1 of 12 on third downs but it felt worse. This is what you’re going to get in 2012. One week, maybe even two, the Saints will be good. Then they’ll be bad again. And it’ll be frustrating to watch if you’re a fan. “We just weren’t playing Saints football,” Jermon Bushrod said, his eyes blankly staring to nowhere as he remained in part of his uniform nearly 20 minutes after the game. “That’s really the frustrating part about it all. We know what we’re capable of doing and when we don’t do it, it’s extremely frustrating.” Read more: Handwerger: Reality sets in on lost season for Saints | wwltv.com New Orleans |

Re: Handwerger: Reality sets in on lost season for Saints
The O is 1-2 players in the draft from being dominate again, that would be my 1st fix, the D is a mess, I'd trade Ingram for picks for next year, Jenkins for a pick or player from another team, send Egg Ellis packing, draft a really dominate DT in the 2nd, O-lineman in the 1st, a FS in the 2nd that pick taken from what we get from Ingram a reciever that can spread the field in the 3rd, a lb. in the 3rd from a package deal, a big corner in the 4th. Bunkley and Jordan are really good, Lofton is a good field general, there is talent on the D and it is not a total rebuild nessassary on the D 3-4 key spots DT and FS being the main 2, also on the O 1-2 players, the light at the end of the tunnel is not a fright train, it's better picks in the draft and thats what it's going to take. Hicks is a keeper also. Payton will know exactly what we need and get them. A diamond in the ruff couldn't hurt either.

EVERY Offense has a bad week here and there... The problem is we do not have a defense that can keep us in the game on those weeks.

I hear that, defense is horrible. But how did they go from 6th in the league in rushing last year to a non-existent running game this year? Same backs, only one different lineman. Doesn't make sense to me. I understand we were playing from behind in most games and that dictates passing, but the run has been absent it seems from the start.

Now we'll have to look forward to them, perhaps, being spoilers for teams like Atlanta.
They seem to be improving, then "bam" they don't show up to play. I think putting too much blame on the defense, as bad as it is, isn't right. Drew didn't have his historical accuracy, and when he did, the ball was shooting straight through Jimmy Graham's hands. You keep handing the ball back to Manning, and you're going to get cooked on a spit. |

I believe the biggest issue is that Sean Payton would be running with a 2012 playbook instead of the 2011 playbook like Kromer and Vitt use. |

Re: Handwerger: Reality sets in on lost season for Saints
Offense had a terrible day and give the Bronco's defense credit where it's due. But the bottom line is and doesn't look likely to change soon.....we don't score 40, we don't win. This defense is not only statistically the worst ever to step on a field, it looks like it too. It's pathetic to watch the lack of effort, the lack of execution and the lack of desire to adapt to teams steam rolling it over and over. They are broken men and the end is not near.
