We really need to play zone with the guys we have. The problem is half of them are playing zone and the other half revert to man instead of staying in their assign zones which leads to the broken coverages. If we start blitzing GW style over 60% of the time it will result in even more big plays because teams will eat us up with the quick slants. Every team left on the schedule has speed receivers that can take a quick throw and take it to the house. Vick is probably the only QB we have left to face that doesn't read the blitz that well. We have some young guys that need to learn the zone scheme and build off of it.
We have Gallete, Wilson, Hicks and Jordan that I think will develop nicely and they will be the future front 4. No way do they get rid of Spags after one year considering all the distractions and every DC has their schemes and zone scheme is Spags specialty so it will be the same scheme we will play next year. Just as well let the young guys learn it this year so they will understand it better for next year. Yes the defense is terrible this year but we made enough mistakes on offense that cost us wins as well. The season is probably done this year, I still have hope but basically we have to win at least 8 out of 9 to have a shot at the playoffs so we just as soon stick with the zone scheme and learn it so that there isn't any breakdowns next year.

"Zone coverage schemes require the linebackers and defensive backs to work together to cover certain areas of the field,"

Sh1t aint workin.

" making it difficult for the opposing quarterback to complete passes"

Sh1t aint workin.

Obviously what have can't play zone (explains GW defense), what we are "trying" is actually making it easier for QGs to complete passes because no one is there when the receiver rcatches the ball.

"Zone defenses will generally require linebackers to cover the short and midrange area in the middle of the field, "

Shanle fail. Hawthorne not so good for this and Lofton is better at the run. Our line backers are slow.
sh1t aint workin

" In the case where one or two linebackers blitz, the remaining linebacker(s) expands his zone to cover the zone responsibilities of the vacating linebacker(s). Often, blitzing will leave larger holes in the pass defense, but it is a gamble the defensive coordinator wants to make to pressure the quarterback into a poor decision and hopefully an interception or at least an incompletion"

Blitz or no blitz QBs have all day.
Sh1t aint workin.

We are now in week 9 that means these players have had over 60 days in cleats to learn this. For you an I that is 12 work weeks to learn a new way to do our job at work. neither you nor I would have a job at this point. .. At what point do you say 'this sh1t aint workin", lets do something to salvage the remainder of the season and give the offense a chance at winning some games.

Specialty Coaches are stubborn, their personalities lend to the type of person that will kick a horse way past death to try and "make it work"..

Again, let this be a lesson to everyone in the Saints kingdom -

Joe Vitt was not "the answer" last week (he's the linebackers coach)
Joe Vitt DOES NOT sound better than Kromer at the mic (he sounds like he's talking out the side of neck)

Now let's hope Joe stops answering question that further frustrate fans and decides to make changes on the field where we can see results....

Because, honestly, Joe's pie trap has become annoying for me to listen to.
All I ever heard from Kromer was how he would make improvements. Fans got frustrated with that................until he won 2 games in a row. Now Joe is handed the job and Saints return to pre-game one/square one.

Right now the only way that happens is if we make it to the playoffs.

Who's the best defensive player in the draft? Top 5 pick is a real possibility

Who thinks we trade back and get a couple picks in the first round?

Honestly, I hope we stand pat or move up. Apparently most defensive players develop slower than their offensive counter parts. We need an impact player in the front seven desperately. Hopefully, we bring in a monster DT but from what I've read the draft doesn't have a 4-3 DT that fits Spags schemes. I think our DE's have promise and we could stand pat for the moment.

I hope we don't target a position. I'd be OK with targeting defense, unless a stud LT or WR falls into our lap.

I just want the best available player at DT/DE/OLB/CB/S/OT/WR.

If the next Wiile Roaf or Jerry Rice is there when we pick, I have no problems going offense at all.

That's probably not far off the mark. They know something is wrong, but either can't figure out what it is, or they don't have the right parts to fix the problem. Bringing in unsigned guys off the street is probably not the answer, so it looks like we'll be waiting until the offseason to sign "the right parts".
