METAIRIE, La. — Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo saw the same thing everyone else saw Monday night – a fast, aggressive New Orleans defense taking the fight to the opponent, helping to carry the team to a 28-13 win over Philadelphia.
But he’s not even close to ready to call the Saints’ defense fixed. Far from it. He knows that matchups change things from one week to the next in the NFL. In other words, while blitzing an injury-riddled Eagles team playing with a patchwork offensive line worked, it might not against a good Atlanta team this Sunday. “I think people, just by nature – football fans, coaches, players do the same things - think the answer to everything is to just blitz,” Spagnuolo said. “That’s not necessarily true, especially when you’re playing a pretty good quarterback. This guy this past weekend was a good quarterback but we felt like we could do some things. They had an injury in the o-line early and that made a difference and we were cognizant of that. “But going into this next game, I don’t know what it will be.” Read more: Saints Spagnuolo: Blitzing not always the answer | wwltv.com New Orleans Related article: New Orleans Saints' aggressive defensive scheme may not be here for long - New Orleans Saints Football NFL News - NOLA.com Last edited by papz; 11-06-2012 at 07:49 PM.. |

Re: Saints Spagnuolo: Blitzing not always the answer
It's ok to make a mistake??? If a player makes one every now and then, ok but we have the same players making the same mistakes game in and game out. Telling them its ok does not give me warm fuzzy feelings.

I hate that we have to blitz just to create pressure...
When the front four are enough, you have that many players available in the middle and deep coverage zones to make an interception... |

Re: Saints Spagnuolo: Blitzing not always the answer
Hey steve, you cover up behind this blizting scheme as best you can and let these boys eat, that is the best they have looked this year. I think now the only way we can get w's is to bring from everywhere and not just sit back andwait for another qb to pick us apart.

Re: Saints Spagnuolo: Blitzing not always the answer
That is Spags saying we blitzed because the Eagles had a very soft o-line... Dont expect that again in the near future.

All out blitzing won't work against starters.
I give credit to Spags for taking advantage of it on that night only. |

Falcons O-line is really shady like that Eagles line.
I think we going to expose that Atl team real easily this Sunday. They have had easy schedule and won none of those games convincingly except vs San Diego. |

New Orleans Saints' aggressive defensive scheme may not be here for long
The Mercedes-Benz Superdome was rocking. The New Orleans Saints' defense was attacking from all sorts of locations. And Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick was under immense pressure.
For a while, it appeared that first-year Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had found an old playbook of former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. New Orleans Saints' aggressive defensive scheme may not be here for long - New Orleans Saints Football NFL News - NOLA.com |
