Charles Brown to start at RT against Falcons
 

The Saints will start third-year OT Charles Brown at right tackle in Week 10.

The 64th pick in the 2010 draft, Brown was beat out for the job in training camp by Zach Strief. Strief will miss Sunday's game against the Falcons with a groin injury. Brown, 25, started five games last season and struggled some, but didn't embarrass himself. This will be a big opportunity for him.

He looked like crap last year... I was actually thrilled when Strief came back. Graham better be ready to chip pass rushers to help out.

Because even though Strief is not a good player, the last time charles brown started, brees got sacked 6 times and we lost to the rams

C'mon Danno... You can't possibly believe that Charles Brown is the same as Strief. Brown has been absolutely horrible every time he's started at RT. Yes, yes.... Strief hasn't had a great season... But Brown is terrible.

I know the Saints need a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball but they really have to address the lack of depth at the offensive tackle position soon.

The Saints have tried to draft oline depth in the later rounds of the draft the last few years, I can't remember one of those being worth a flip besides Nicks in the 5th a couple years ago

I see it as a player (Brown) with at best questionble skills, little to no experience, who's never been healthy, filling in for (Strief) a good, solid, not great, two plus year starter. Then, absolutely no depth behind Bushrod and Brown. Hopefully, but I won't hold my breath, lol, the Saints will truly have a more balanced attack with the edge, maybe, possibly, we can only dream, going to the run. But, as long as they win, I don't care. WHO DAT!

He wasn't terrible today but didn't blow anybody away either. Quite a lot of RBs back in protection today. Protection from the whole group was allright today, one sack and just a few couple of hits on Brees.

Yeah he suprised me to be fair, they put John Abraham on him all day, if brown would have been a liability, Abraham would have exploited him all day, brown held his own

And If my memory serves me correctly, NO PENALTIES against him. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though. I just don't remember his number being called. That is more than we can say for Strief.

Hopefully its a sign he is developing as a player. Took Strief a couple of years to become a decent RT and Brown might be making the same journey.

Part of an O-line that blocked for 148 yards at 5.1 per carry with one sack on Brees. Must have done something right, although Olsen supplemented as an additional blocker quite a bit. But if we didn't hear Brown's name on the O-line, then I'm satisfied. Keep it up, kid.

Not to mention Brown had back problems his 1st year and I think he also had back surgery.

I think his development was slowed due to those back problems.

Just read that according to PFF grades, he graded out our best O-lineman for the game.

Yeah, that's surprising. He and De La Puente were the only ones on the O-line with a positive rating. Evans and Grubbs were neutral and Bushrod earned a negative overall grade.
