METAIRIE — When Thomas Morstead takes the field, usually something very bad — or very good — has just happened to the Saints.
The very bad: the offense being forced to punt, which is Morstead’s primary job with the team, one he’s doing at an NFL-record pace. The very good: the offense has just scored, and it’s time for Morstead’s secondary responsibility — kicking off, another task in which he excels. To Morstead then, it’s up to him to either convert the bad into good by flipping the field or to make sure something bad doesn’t offset the good that’s just happened. “I’m first and foremost a punter, but I won’t lie,” Morstead said. “When we’ve just scored and the Dome is rocking and I can go out there and hit a touchback, it’s a pretty good feeling.” Read more: Saints |

I dont know his stats, but he has to be one of the top punters in the league and one of the leaders in touchbacks in kickoffs. I wish he kicked FGs!

Re: Saints’ punter Thomas Morstead prefers kicking off
ll bet he is fairly damned accurate also...
Ditch Hartley, freeing cap space.. let the Morstead kick FGs and extra points. Ill put money that he can set a new NFL FG record. |

Re: Saints’ punter Thomas Morstead prefers kicking off
Yup having a guy who can pin offenses when punting and force other teams to start at the 20 is a weapon in itself.
I'm glad he's on our team. |

Re: Saints’ punter Thomas Morstead prefers kicking off
The special teams coach McMahon told him not to work on kickoffs during practice............it wasn't his job. So he did it after practice and Payton saw him several practices later. He watched him. Smiled. And told McMahon they had a new kicker. Man I wish McMahon would go some where else.
