Thumbs up Jimmy Graham says Tampa game was turning point for Saints

The New Orleans Saints chased a 13-3 regular season with an 0-4 start. They snapped out of it in Week Five with a win over the Chargers, and New Orleans has now won four out of five.

So when was the actual turning point for the team? All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham believes it happened in Week Six.

“I think it was Tampa game,” Graham told Erik Kuselias of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network. “Going up to Tampa Bay and having players like Malcolm Jenkins, one of our captains, run the receiver down and stop him on the one-yard line and then for our defense to step up and get a stop and get a turnover there. Plays like that, those are the things that have helped us to turn this thing around.”

The fact that Graham, who had a sprained ankle at the time, wasn’t even in the state of Florida when that game happened demonstrates its importance.

This weekend, they’ll try to push their record to .500 via a trip to Oakland. The Saints need it, because the schedule gets a lot more difficult the rest of the way.

As for the rest of the interview, I’ll post it as soon as we get the code from Stamford, Connecticut.

I think we all felt the same way Jimmy... Let's keep it going and make all of the analysts (ahem... I meant "anal cysts") eat their words and win this damn Lombardi again in our house!

Yeah I think Jimmy got a little full of himself with all of the press he got. Maybe didn't work as hard as he did to get there in the first place. He's coming around though. Drew won't let ease up.

He's just gotta make sure he has the ball in his hands first.

Re: Jimmy Graham says Tampa game was turning point for Saints

I thought the Tampa game was a turning point, too. But then we got dump trucked in Denver the next week... so... Not quite. Just getting that first win against the Chargers was more important because it showed that this team could actually win a game.

The Eagles game seems to have been the real turning point, as far as getting back to playing like the Saints we're used to seeing. The balance on offense, and an effective defense. Not great D, but good enough. We didn't have much of either in our first two wins.

Re: Jimmy Graham says Tampa game was turning point for Saints

I'm still waiting to see if we have actually turned the corner.......although I don't doubt that we will win this weekend. They are decimated with injuries and it shouldn't be close.
I just want to see if our defense can keep bending and not breaking. I'm not a fan of it but it seems to be working lately. The offense looks better every game so does the defense........it's just that the defense had so far to go I don't know if they can get that much better. We'll need to keep putting up 40 burgers to win.
