New Orleans Saints update: More injuries leave team thin at OT, CB
OAKLAND—The Saints could be facing some depth issues at right tackle and cornerback after sustaining more injuries during Sunday’s 38-17 victory over the Oakland Raiders.
Backup right tackle Charles Brown left the game with a knee injury. The early guess is that it’s a sprained MCL, though nothing had been confirmed on Sunday. That would likely keep him sidelined for roughly four weeks, which would be a problem since starting right tackle Zach Strief is out with a groin injury that is expected to keep him out for at least another week or two, if not more. The Saints turned to undrafted rookie Bryce Harris during Sunday’s game. He struggled early—one of his mistakes led to an intentional grounding penalty. But he settled in with a decent second half performance, and the Saints will certainly make it a priority to help him with chip-blockers and an extra lineman on his side at times. The Saints play the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at the Superdome. Backup cornerback Elbert Mack also left late in Sunday’s game with a concussion that will put his status in doubt next week. Mack was playing the nickel spot because normal nickel corner Corey White was out with a knee injury. Both of them could be back as early as next week. Otherwise the Saints will turn to second-year cornerback Johnny Patrick, who has been decent but inconsistent in his young career. Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
All little common sense goes a long way. |

Harris is a big kid. He may do well given more reps.

We have to support who we put on the field. I do anyway.
