Licking our Wounds ...

I thought it was our moment ... I thought we were going to lay a smacking on the 9'ers so hard and heavy it would charge our campaign for the remainder of the regular and hopefully post season ... But after a good 5 or 6 hours of letting it sink in I still see the same glimmer of light as yesterday and the losses of the Seahawks , Vikings , and Buccaneers back that mathematically.

In review Offensively we outscored San Francisco , minus Drews late half heroics I feel we have an entirely different game on our hands.

And Our defense is certainly getting better , but here is to me why we lost and lose most of our games ...

We have too many RBs active and as a result not one can get into a rhythm ... Our winning % and us running the ball are almost mirror images , quit cutting the careers of these guys short release one or two and let them do their thing.

We are the softest team in Football ... There are some SEC schools that hit harder than we do , that's a pathetic but true comparison.
We need to get in the weight room or something...

We as a result of being soft dive at feet. Do they have no shame in one guy missing a tackle diving for laces and 2nd & forever becomes 1st & 10 on our 20 ?

Say what you will Singletary may not have won with the 49ers but he damn sure taught them how to hit and play with intensity.

But on the bright side we are still in it and we don't face Peyton , Roders or the 49ers anymore so we still have a rope that is tapered thin.

And another way to look at it , We see what the problem is as fans , Imagine the schemes , game planning , personnel changes , and plays Sean Payton is seeing.

This year off for him may just give him that big picture he was missing as a coach , I'm sure he sees what we see and tons more

Re: Licking our Wounds ...

The defense only gave up 17 points.

The offense did not do what they needed to do but consider that we were down to our 4th RT who was signed as a replacement to the replacement to the backup -- this sounds like a common theme this year.

Consider that we traded off big plays (the punt fumble by them, and deflected pass for a TAINT aka Touchdown After INT), then the difference was the first TAINT. The defense did an admirable job to keep the last 49ers score to a FG but they were on the field for a very long time. They must get off the field sooner.

The Saints are not out of it this yet.

Re: Licking our Wounds ...

This was in no way the defenses fault

Yeah we give up yards, but they get better every week

Think of this;

14-7 we go 3 and out with 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter

We allowed some yards but pat robinson makes a good pick

50 seconds left on the 49ers 45 yard line (atleast a FG of this drive right?)

Brees makes a dumbass throw and now its 14-14

D struggled due to second half adjustments, 9ers score 21-14

Our offense is going to come out and answer right? i mean we only have the most record setting offense in the league for the past half decade

WRONG

brees makes another stupid throw, turns in a pick six again but this time, he almost kills one of our most valuable players in colston

the defense gave up 17 points,

Brees was completely responsible for this game, all the momentum went to the 9ers after those two plays

When we had a chance to make a comeback, Our O line struggled and brees was throwing the ball into double coverage

Bree should take responsibility for this loss in the locker room.

49ers are good. We got beat by a better team and that's all that really happened. They had a new QB, short week, holiday, long travel and still beat us.

No doubt, he did.

Yes, defense is getting a bit better, but still won't tackle.

Re: Licking our Wounds ...

Dizzle - stop pinning this on Brees.

Brees "sucked" as you say because he had no time to throw.

Niners were getting to him with 4 man rush leaving everyone covered.

San Fran has the leagues best def line and our o line was patchwork - and it cost us when we fell behind.

Had we run more successfully and not turned over twice for 14 today would be different

go back and watch the first pick 6 he threw, he had all the time in the world and stepped up in the pocket like he does

yeah the O line crumbled at the end, they ended any hope of a comeback from us, but on the two pick 6's brees was protected better than he was at the end

I love Brees - I'm a Brees Homer. But he made some poor decisions today:

- threw into double and even triple coverage several times
- took 3 step drops and held on to the ball too long
- made bad reads on the safeties

We knew the O-Line was gonna have their hands full. I like that Brees has confidence in them, but there has to come a time when he realizes that he's gonna either have to throw the ball away or make a run for it.
