I can't even begin to blame Colston for not making that catch....
The fact he knew he was going to get hit, while be 4 feet in the air has somethng to do with it.
Bad placement on the ball... The interception just bad luck and bad timing.

You have to watch video, not gamecast. text alerts don't usually capture how athletic Colston is.

But seriously, there are like 20 websites devoted to video of him catching balls across the middle and taking huge hits simultaneously. Brees likes to throw the ball high, so most of Colston's receptions are usually helmet level and above. He can't have much sinovial fluid left in his joints from the pounding.

Brees knows how much air Colston can get which is why he is throwing the ball for gazelle catches.

Brees knows that Jimmy can out manhandle any defenders which is why he not affraid to squeeze the ball to him when he is tripple teamed.

While his throws like that one look stupid, he actually throws to his receivers abilities, while most QBs throw to a target not taking any of that into account.

Look how wide open Sproles is. It goes back to Drew wanting to force everything down field instead of taking what's there.

That throw was not out of the ordinary from Brees to Colston.

I would agree. I always find myself wondering when he throws the ball to a receiver with 3 -4 defenders around him, there was no one else open?? Thanks to that clip, I finally got an answer. How far you think Sproles would have got with how open he was?

Hate to say it, acrobatic or not, Colston dropped the ball. End of story.
Most of the time Colston makes that grab and everyone praises the team for athletic play.
Those "risky" throws make our team potent. We never go back and observe the plays we score on or chug 20 yards down the field on a completion. That's how it works.

Dang. You can see Sproles even kind of flinches and sticks his hands out, like he thinks the ball is coming to him -- he knows how wide open he is.
