Jason Babin
Do we go after him since the Eagles cut him?
|
Re: Jason Babin
At 32, age may be a factor...
|
Re: Jason Babin
Oh God that's so tempting... He was a MONSTER last year, but not so much this season (although no-one on the Eagles has looked good this year.) I'm not gonna lie, I kind of want to at least put in a waiver claim for him. Plenty of other teams will as well so who knows if we'd get him but it really couldn't hurt to try.

Re: Jason Babin
We need younger guys that will be with us for a while not stop gaps.
|
Re: Jason Babin
No
|
Re: Jason Babin
YES!
|
Re: Jason Babin
I wouldn't be against it if Spags felt that Babin was what this defensive front needed to become even a little better, but other than that, I don't think he is a guy the Saints should go after.
|
Re: Jason Babin
Of course we should give it a shot. I'm not quite satisfied watching our defensive ends have one of the worst pass rush productivity ratings in the league. Cameron Jordan is one of the best in the league against the run... but now that Gallette is injured and missing games who exactly is giving us a good pass rush?

Re: Jason Babin
Kick the tires, let see what he's got left.
|
Re: Jason Babin
No... there was a reason he was cut... he has no more left n the tank....

News????

Re: Jason Babin
Save the money. Get someone who has more to offer.
|
Re: Jason Babin
Im on the fence..30+ sacks in the last 3 years..who do we have that is even close to that?
|
Re: Jason Babin
Amobi Okoye as well. Have to at least consider.
|
Yes. 3rd in NFL in sacks. No guaranteed money, and he already collected his one time veteran separation pay at Seattle. Bring him in for use on obvious passing downs.
Worst case it doesn't work and you cut him at the end of the year. There is absolutely no downside fir us. He has more pass rush threat on a bad day than most of our players, he is exactly the type of player Spags defense needs. He was cut from Philly as a financial move. The Eagles are clearing money to overhaul in the off season. Def coordinator already gone, Reed will be fine soon, as well as Vick. |

Re: Jason Babin
I'd try him out.
|
Re: Jason Babin
Don't think we will have a realistic shot at him though. If more than one team shows interest, then the waiver claim process starts and the team with the worst record gets first dibs. We have atleast 10 teams in front of us

Re: Jason Babin
So the question is if he drops all the way to us.. Should we try him out? I say yes.

Re: Jason Babin
Its pretty much a no brainer if we have a roster spot and available $.
There is zero risk. |
Re: Jason Babin
REPORT: It hasn’t taken long for Babin to start lining up interviews. He is on his way to Atlanta to interview with the Falcons and will proceed to the New Orleans Saints following his interview with Atlanta. From there Jason will head to Denver on Wednesday night to talk shop with the Broncos. Another team that could be interested in his services are the Detroit Lions who also run the wide-9.
Eagles Cut Jason Babin. Making Sense of the Move. |
Re: Jason Babin
Falcons couldn't possibly have him on the field Thursday night.
|
Re: Jason Babin
Atlanta...lmao yeah ok. We gonna put on the nawlins charm and it's gonna be a wrap!
|
If we can get him its got to be worth a look.Unless Smith vastly reduces his contract he should be getting cut and if Babin could do the job for a year or two it would give time to get some other defensive players in and draft a pass rusher next year.

That being said, he's looking for a short term contract with a team that has a shot playing the post season. He's still got a LOT left in the tank and we haven't had a end pass rusher worth his water in a few years... I say, grab him! |

Let him clear waviers and will see

Reportedly claimed by the Jags

Jaguars secure Jason Babin’s contract Posted by Mike Florio on November 28, 2012, 4:27 PM EST APWhen defensive end Jason Babin was cut by the Eagles, he probably thought he’d be upgrading his chances of playing for a contender. If he did, he thought wrong. Per a league source, Babin was awarded to the Jaguars, who at 2-9 were second on the priority list. At this point, it’s not known who else made a claim for his contract; it’s only known that the Chiefs, who have top priority, didn’t. The next question becomes whether Babin will make noise about being involuntarily shipped to a bad team, which now holds his rights through 2015. Apart from playing for a bad team, Babin will now be playing in London once per year over the next three seasons. If Babin opts to retire in lieu of playing for Jacksonville, the Jags would be able to recover $900,000 in signing bonus money, along with the remaining proration of his signing bonus for 2012, which by our calculations is another $88,000.Plus, he’d be giving up $1.69 million for roughly a month of work.
