Keep the car:
1500.00 repair bill
no monthly payment
only liability insurance, pretty cheap
Total outlay = $1,500.00

Trade for a new one:
500.00 is all you will get for a car with 120k miles, especially with repair problems.
300.00 to 400.00 car payment monthly
full coverage required, not cheap
total outlay = $$$$$$ lots of money
