NFC Contenders' Corner (Playoff Contenders Info) Week 14

NO MORE BYE TEAMS NFL Flex Schedule Now In Effect

Thursday December 6th
Week 14, Game 1: Broncos (9-3) @ Raiders (3-9)
N/A: AFC opponents

Sunday December 9th

Week 14, Game 2: Ravens (9-3) @ Redskins (6-6)
a.. Why it is important: Redskins are an NFC rival, and also own the TIEBREAKER over the Saints.
b.. Desired outcome: Pull for the Ravens. Ravens have their eyes on 1st round bye in the playoffs, and TOOK NOTICE of the Redskins’ win over the Giants on MNF.
c.. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 6 out of 10

Week 14, Game 3: Cowboys (6-6) @ Bengals (7-5)
a. Why it is important: Cowboys are an NFC rival, and are currently ahead in the standings.
b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Bengals, who are also in the hunt for an AFC playoff berth.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 5.5 out of 10

Week 14, Game 4: Rams (5-6-1) @ Bills (5-7)
a. Why it is important: Rams are an NFC rival. They are also slightly ahead of the Saints in the standings by virtue of their 6 losses and 1 tie vs. the Saints 7 losses.
b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Bills. The Rams have been off nearly everyone’s radar for most of this season. But under Jeff Fisher, they have been resurgent. They have a solid defense (JoLon Dunbar has been playing well for them), and a respectable offense (that is always a threat when defenses have to put 7 or 8 in the box vs. Steven Jackson. The Rams could take a significant step towards entering the postseason with a win. Let’s hope that the Bills come ready to play.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4.5 out of 10

Week 14, Game 5: Eagles (3-9) @ Buccaneers (6-6)
a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals; Bucs are an NFC South foe, and are ahead of the Saints in the standings.
b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Eagles. Philadelphia played an inspired game vs. the Cowboys, but ran out of gas in the end. Philly has nothing to lose, and may catch the Bucs playing too conservative. …let’s hope so. Would be a HUGE upset for the Eagles to pull off.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 3.5 out of 10

Week 14, Game 6: Falcons (11-1) @ Panthers (3-9)
a. Why it is important: Actually, the game has meaning because the Saints would want to play the Falcons in the divisional round (should the Black & Gold get help in obtaining the #6 seed).
b. Desired outcome: Hold your nose and pull for the Panthers to LOSE. Again, the Saints would want the Falcons to get the #1 seed, then the Saints make #6 seed and WIN in the Wildcard round. That would put the Saints in the Georgia Dome for the Divisional round (2nd week) of the Playoffs. Keep believing until there’s no chance.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 6.5 out of 10

Week 14, Game 7: Chiefs (2-10) @ Browns (4-8)
N/A: AFC opponents

Week 14, Game 8: Chargers (4-8) @ Steelers (7-5)
N/A: AFC opponents

Week 14, Game 9: Titans (4-8) @ Colts (8-4)
N/A: AFC opponents

Week 14, Game 10: Jets (5-7) @ Jaguars (2-10)
N/A: AFC opponents

Week 14, Game 11: Bears (8-4) @ Vikings (6-6)
a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals.
b. Desired outcome: A loss by the Vikings would give them six (6) losses to NFC opponents. That by itself would be in the Saints favor should they both finish at 9-7. Bears are banged up, and Urlacher may miss the remainder of the season. Vikings have a potent offense, and this will NOT be an easy game for the Bears. But should the Bears LOSE, we would then want them to continue the skid to finish at 8-8.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4 out of 10 (Vikings will probably come back strong at home, but I hope I’m wrong)!

Week 14, Game 12: Dolphins (5-7) @ 49’ers (8-3-1)
a. Why it is important: This is an important game because we DO NOT want the Seahawks to take the NFC West. That “tie” in the 49’ers record PLUS that head-to-head vs. the Saints make it a losing proposition. We need the ‘Niners to finish strong, then get the #2 seed. That would put the top remaining Wildcard seed in San Francisco for the Divisional round… and I would like those odds.
b. Desired outcome: Pull for the 49’ers for the above stated reasons.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 7.5 out of 10

Week 14, Game 13: Cardinals (4-8) @ Seahawks (7-5)
a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals; Seahawks are 2 games ahead of the Saints in the Wildcard chase (for #6 seed).
b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Cardinals. Arizona beat the Seahawks on opening day, and are NOT afraid of the Seahawks. As mentioned before, Arizona started out the season at 4-0, and have lost eight-in-a-row. They are due to break their losing streak, and this would be a GREAT time for them to do just that.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4.5 out of 10. Seattle is one of the toughest teams at home, and Russell Wilson is gaining confidence each week; he is certainly not looking like a rookie QB. If Kevin Kolb gets the start, Arizona has a chance. If it’s Skelton or one of the other scrubs… the Cards will need a lot of turnovers handed to the offense by their D.

Week 14, Game 14: Saints (5-7) @ Giants (7-5)
a. Why it is important: Just in case you haven't been following closely, this is the Saints' THIRD STRAIGHT GAME vs. NFC Division Leaders. Saints would want this game for two reasons: 1) Advantage, should it come down to a head-to-head record, and (more importantly) 2) it gives the Saints a very important WIN vs. an NFC opponent.
b. Desired outcome: What??? All I need to say is “WhoDat!”
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 6 out of 10. Somehow, I see the Saints’ defense putting in another good performance. I also believe that the Saints’ running game will get untracked.

Sunday December 9th (Sunday Night Football)
Week 14, Game 15: Lions (4-8) @ Packers (8-4)
a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals; Packers have the head-to-head by virtue of their narrow win over the Saints in Week 4. Megatron will likely have a monster game on Sunday Night Football (before a national audience).
b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Packers.
c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 6.5 out of 10

Monday December 10th (Monday Night Football)
Week 14, Game 16: Texans (11-1) @ Patriots (9-3)
N/A: AFC opponents. However, this game could be a preview of the AFC Championship game. But Peyton Manning, Terrell Suggs, and Andrew Luck might disagree.

Re: NFC Contenders' Corner (Playoff Contenders Info) Week 14

- Pull for the Ravens ... aye, aye Captain.
- Pull for the Bengals ... shouldn't be a problem.
- Pull for the Titans ... do you mean the Bills?

- Pull for the Eagles ... <whew>, Ok.
- Pull for the Panthers to lose? ... IDK, I guess ... but I regret that I have but one life to give for WhoDat Nation.
- Bears to lose - No problem there.

- Pull for the Niners? ... gonna' need more then a clothespin for all the nose-holding I'll be doing.
- Pull for Cardinals ... consider it done.
- Saints/Giants ... WhoDat!
- Pull for the Packers ... no problem there (even though I'll secretly be hoping Detroit wins), the Lions make it easier to throw them under the bus with every passing week, @#$%!

Week 14, Game 6: Falcons (11-1) @ Panthers (3-9)
a. Why it is important: Actually, the game has meaning because the Saints would want to play the Falcons in the divisional round (should the Black & Gold get help in obtaining the #6 seed).

I dont agree with pulling for the Falcons. Why in hell would we want to play the Falcons first round (which is not possible when they will have a bye)? With only four games left the Falcons will be the #1 seed regardless... The 49ers cant catch them. The Falcons are 3 games ahead of everyone.

Also if we ever play Atlanta in the playoffs it will be in the NFC Conference Championship. As #1 seed they get a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

If we make it, we will play the Packers or the 49ers in the first round.

Atlanta needs to lose and I cant root for them ever.

Re: NFC Contenders' Corner (Playoff Contenders Info) Week 14

IF IF IF...
Cincy beats Dallas - 6-7
Bears beat Vikes - 6-7
Eagles beat Bucs - 6-7
Ravens beat Skins - 6-7
Cards beat Seahawks 7-6
Saints beat Giants - 7-6

We would then be 1 game out of the 6th seed with 3 to play. Multiple tie-breakers make it too soon to project who gets the 6th seed.

Also, its possible the Skins overtake the Giants and we fight with the Giants for a possible WC.

I think you misunderstood Oak. He was saying he hopes the falcons get the #1 seed (likely anyway) so the saints can play them in the ga dome (assuming they win their wildacard game) in the 2nd round. I agree, the Saints need to play the falcons in the 2nd round in the ga dome to have the best chance to advance to the nfc champ game.

We want the Panthers to beat the Falcons.
We want the Giants to beat the Falcons.
We want the Lions to beat the Falcons.
We want the Buccs to beat the Falcons.

Falcons winning any game what so ever does nothing for us.

Oak? Are you all there? We want the falcons to get the # 1 seed to we can play them in the divisional round. They need to win a few more to lock that up.

I am all here, all day. Any specific reason you WANT to play the Falcons in the Divisional round? I don't care who we play.

You cheer for Atlanta. Two wins and its locked.

If I want a revenge game, its 49ers.
If i want the easiest opponent its Chicago.

Reason #1: We match up well with atlanta and know them

Reason #2: Its in a dome in January

Reason #3: No way our guys lose 2 straight in atlanta, revenge factor will be a huge advantage for us

IMO, we'll get the 49ers....in the NFCCG

Theres nothing easy about playing at chicago in january
