Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Quote:
Ellis, Bushrod, Henderson, Shanle, Casillas, McBride, Mack and Roby. So how do we chop off 20 million? Loomis? Loomis? Anyone? Restructuring several contracts may cut that figure in half, but then we're still over about 10 million. It may be more dire than I originally thought. Loomis better pull a rabbit's foo outta his ass real quick. |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
This may help. especially since 2014 is the year the new TV conrtract will cause the cap to rise dramatically...
Quote:
So, Restrucure Brees - 6.6 million Release Smith - 7.7 million Release Vilma - 6.0 million There's 20.3 million, so now we need enough restructuring to resign Bushrod, or a comparable LT. Its gonna be tight. |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Have all the players with the highest contracts pick straws and the 3 lowest must restructure to help out... sounds logical... haha
|
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
The way Loomis restructures deals scares the Hell out of me. Every year we are in cap Hell and trying to restructure the contracts that Loomis drew up.

In Loomis I Trust.

Will Smith and Vilma are goners next year

Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
It’s almost enough to make a suspended head coach with an expiring contract think about exploring all his options before signing a new deal.
This is a bull**** statement! The team was in much more critical shape when he took over. Would SP walk away from a challenge? Would he walk away from a franchise who still has Brees and has Loomis and an organization who has given him the opportunity & has supported him throughout the suspended season? If SP walks away I will never be able to foregive him or the organization. |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Drew would you like to have a large trust and a beautiful wife, both you won't be able to enjoy because every pass rusher in the league is pi$$ed how much you make and all will slam your head into the turf of their respective astro-turf fields or frozen tundras...or...
Would you like to have a nice nestegg and a Left Tackle to protect you so you will be afforded a post playing career as well as spend quality time with your family?!? Tom Condon got his skin and your name on his trophy wall so he can corrupt, er sell future draft prospects on how important they are to him... So what's it gonna be?!? You gonna have cred or mo money?!? |

Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
I don't think we should say goodbye to Vilma Just yet. He's been injured this entire season in and out of the courtroom , playing with a new DC and SP is gone. That was hardly a fair shake. And he still performed better than expected. Lofton and Vilma are sure Tacklers ... As a Saints fan the last thing I want to see is us giving up a Pro Bowl Linebacker for a Shoestring diving idiot.
Smith to me is long gone. No production at all for what we are paying him ... Restructure Brees , Graham in a backloaded contract. Heck if we're getting rid of anyone I want at least 1 of the RB's gone , and Roman Harper. That man can't cover his feet with a Blanket in bed. Sign Dwight Freeney or Draft a Stud DE , |

Roman Harper. That man can't cover his feet with a Blanket in bed.
Now thats funny ! |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
I think they find a way to bring back Vilma at a friendlier number.
|
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Loomis looked at all this and developed several courses of action. Not that concerned about it.

Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Brees isn't about to restructure anything other than his man cave. His contract is just was he demanded. It's easy for the most ill-informed to suggest restructuring his freshly minted deal, along with the others proclaiming how they'd offer various FA talents vet minimum with a "heavily incentive laden contract." Players will only hand you a hearty FU through their agents, then sign elsewhere. Did Peyton offer to renegotiate?
I've seen dozens of posts hollerin "Just pay the man whatever he wants." during negotiations with Brees. I couldn't disagree, considering the value of Brees to this franchise. Simple fact is that the Saints had no choice if they'd like to see the promised land again over the next 3 years. We really can't compete for any D FA studs due to this deal. Players and depth will be lost, yet we likely can't get another franchise QB anytime soon. I simply cannot hate on any NFL player getting all they can while the gettin's good. The next snap may easily be their last. Well played, Drew. You've earned it, dawg. |

Got a lot of over priced players under performing. Don't see the cap problem. Only problem I see is if we keep them. If you're the worst defense of all time then you can't do much worst in rebuilding.

Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Is graham still under contract? What about Sproles?
|
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
No doubt Loomie has it under control. I doubt he woke up one morning and said, "jeesh, we're screwed."
I'm not worried. Frankly, as has been mentioned here any many times before, we need to keep the core together and I think we will, but we have some high-priced dead weight, especially on defense, that probably won't be on the team next year. Not worried about it a'tall. |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
I'm not worried about our cap for 2013. Drew will restructure his base salary of 17.4 million to get more guaranteed. This year the Giants restructured Eli's deal so he was only making 1.75 million base and the rest is guaranteed for 2012. Drew will still get the same amount of money, it will just be more in guaranteed. Players love guaranteed money and this helps our cap. Let's say Drew does something similar to Eli and takes a base of 2 million then he gets 15.4 million guaranteed. That frees up 15.4 million of our cap. There you go, that's almost all of the 16 million the article talks about. Expect Drew and the Saints to rework his deal each year, he'll keep on lowering his base salary to make more guaranteed. This is just an article trying to stir the pot. This is GM 101, Mickey knows this and we'll be fine.

Don't get too caught up in the cap issue. The way Loomis handles cap space translates to no real tangible numbers to go off of.
When you look at the way he can manage to restructure anyone, probable cuts, rookie cap, trades and free agency options..... It's like siting down to build a Lego castle and all of your blocks are made of Play Dough. |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Just to recap...
Releasing Smith - $7.72 million Releasing Jonathan Vilma - $6 million Brees' contract conversion - $6.6 million Jahri Evans' contract conversion - $5 million Guard Ben Grubbs contract conversion - $3.3 million There’s 28 million right there. Now we're 8 million UNDER the cap. I hate to lose Vilma and Smith, but I think we can survive. And who knows, maybe they both resign at cap friendly deals. |
Can you caption your recap on the cap?

Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
If Payton walks how can the organization be at fault?
The Organization: "Take this big fat contract!!" Payton: "No." Oh, yeah, I see it now!! LOL |
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
Brees winning the arbitration suit is the reason he got the contract. Yes, he had some bad games but ask the Cardinals, Raiders,Jets ect. if they would pay for an elite QB? Enjoy watching him while you can.
|
Re: Saints facing a cap mess in 2013
We shoudl drop Ellis, Bunkley, Harper, Will Smith, Vilma, and Jenkins if possible. None of them are worth their contracts. Sign Bushrod and Graham. Bring in some new players on the O line and D. Trade Ivory and Cadet.
