Suspended Gregg Williams can look for coaching jobs
Sean Payton is back in the fold. Gregg Williams might not be far behind.
NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Tuesday that Williams, suspended indefinitely for his role in the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" fiasco, is free to look for work, according to the league. Commissioner Roger Goodell, however, plans to review Williams' reinstatement if and when he lands a job. That's an unusual wrinkle to the deal, to say the least. Payton was reinstated from his season-long suspension as coach of the Saints on Tuesday, but it's obvious New Orleans is not a landing spot for Williams. Same goes for the St. Louis Rams. Williams was hired last offseason as defensive coordinator of the Rams, but won't return to that role, a team source told Breer. The Rams already are shopping for someone else to run their defense. It's unlikely a team is going to bring Williams on at the coordinator level for the 2013 season. It would invite an unwanted circus and he'd be under the proverbial microscope. There's also the issue of timing here. Any team going through the trouble of hiring Williams must wait for Goodell's decision on his status. As Williams attempts a comeback, that's an overt roadblock -- one that might keep suitors away. With eight new head coaches filling out their staffs and plenty of assistant shuffling ahead, however, Williams does stand a chance of landing a new gig. Re: Suspended Gregg Williams can look for coaching jobs
Goodhell must be feeling particularly magnanimous today.
I am really curious to see if anyone hires Williams. |
Re: Suspended Gregg Williams can look for coaching jobs
Has to find a job before he can find out if he will be reinstated, sure that's going to work
No team in their right mind will chance it... |

Sure, a team might hire him... No players will ever TRUST him. |
Re: Suspended Gregg Williams can look for coaching jobs
This whole sham is a result of Williams style of coaching and Payton is going to serve the same punishment?
Goodell just keeps screwing things up... |

Well, this is what I stated would probably end up happening, when the suspensions were first announced, and it seems I was right. I thought that SP and GW would probably end up serving the same length of time, but SP would be (in practice) punished more harshly because of the difference in salary he lost in comparison to GW. And that is ridiculous, if we are to believe the league's claims that GW was orchestrating the bounty program and had even put money in the pool himself, and SP was "only" guilty of not putting an end to the practice. |

Based on what I've seen from Spags, I'd take Williams back in a heartbeat if no other options are available.

I'd rather have Jerry Jones become the GM of the Saints than see that wiesel back coaching the black & gold. |

Re: Suspended Gregg Williams can look for coaching jobs
I know that I'm in the minority on Spagnoulo but I'm willing to see it through another year. This year suffered by the Saints as a team and their fans was unprecedented. It was unrealistic to expect the defense, with basically the same players from last year, to be markedly better. The defense got worse, yes, but what a way to begin your career as DC in New Orleans. Get hired, Goodell goes nuts and takes all these things from the team (most importantly the HC), and without the leader of the team laying out his expectations, make a great defense.
The team needs good players to make this thing work. The Saints have hardly any good defensive players. The coaches are starting the 2013 season today and have a lot of work to do. Spagnoulo has a pretty good track record with defenses so I'm fine with him coming back next year. |
Re: Suspended Gregg Williams can look for coaching jobs
I agree Ruby and Mitch. How confusing?
ok, I can hire you on our team, but I cannot because the Commis Rog has to approve first. So if he does yes, If not no, yet he said you can put yourself out there to teams? HUH?!?!??!?!?!!? Is it yes or no? If a coach wants himm, they do. They cannot wait and see so seems to me, GWilliams is in limbo. He is a good DefCoach. He has commited the usual NFL player crimes of , well, you know. Come on. They talked all of Vick not being denied a livlihood. RailBoss and I are just so confused about the NFL crimes and punishments. If you kill someone, go all the way and don't half asz, and you are in the NFL! GWilliams, hopefully get in at a team and will have learned his lesson. His lesson is STFU Class 101 for Beginners and Advanced STFU. Really, that is his crime. He has the diesease of Personality in Diarrhea of the Lips. |

I hope he lands on his feet. I'd trade another bounty scheme for a ring in a heartbeat... but that's just me.
Sucks all this happened but its time to move on. |
