Re: Spags Released
From the NOLA article:
Quote:
Yeah, Shanle was probably told to actually play like he belonged on the field... explains why we didn't see him on the field during the latter half of the season. And anyway, why is he commenting on this like it was something that affected him... his playing days in New Orleans are over! |
Re: Spags Released
Most mock drafts I've seen have Mingo going top 10, think we have a realistic shot at him?

Exactly! :-D Did Romeus play any 3-4 DE or OLB during his time at Pitt? I ask this because I don't follow any College football, and I'm too tired to start an internet search on the topic. |

By all accounts Shanle is a very smart player and will likely be a very successful coach one day. I totally respect his opinion on X's and O's. Too bad he's about as physically gifted as a punter. |

I've seen him blow too many assignments and drag the players around him down for too long to have any respect for him at the moment... but maybe that'll change once he's no longer "our" problem. |

Re: Spags Released
it could be that Sean had a lot of time to do research and found that teams that run the 3-4 include the Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Houston Texans. That is half of the playoff teams, to include the two super bowl contenders.

He often recognized that someone else blew their assignment and he tried to recover for them, and was mistakenly blamed for a coverage he wasn't responsible for to begin with. |

I'll take your word for it, but please recognize that I can't just turn off my despise for the guy that has been building up during countless hours of watching him play. ;-) |
Re: Spags Released
Let's not gloss over the other good news, Flajoe was also fired. Other than 09 when was the last time our defensive backs looked anything but lost?
And maybe I'm ignorant on the subject but it seems to me that if a DB is athletic enough to play man to man there's no reason playing a zone should be any problem for him. I guess going to a 3-4 means that we're not going to need as many defensive linemen but we're going to need more LBs? Seems like we've already had a problem finding quality players at that position. (Not that we're overflowing with linemen) |

He was a zone CB trying to play man. Epic failure. There is a difference apparently, I just don't know what. |

Another question, what happens with a 3-4 when you go to the nickle. Any difference? |
Re: Spags Released
Just rumors but...
Profootballtalk mentions Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini as potential defensive-coordinator options for the Saints. PFT isn't basing this off of anything other than the Sean Payton-Bill Parcells connection, but they both do have experience running the 3-4 defense that the Saints are transitioning to. New Orleans is a little late in the game, so they'll likely have to promote from within or go out and grab a retread. Since nobody on the current staff knows the 3-4, going outside the organization is the only option. Source: Profootballtalk on NBC Sports |

LOVIE SMITH!!!!!!!!!!
Just got half a chub. Am I sick? |
Re: Spags Released
I wanted the 3-4 for a long long time, I think our best defense has been in the 3-4 Alignment under Gregg Williams when it was schemed up, the 4-3 just never worked, has never worked except in 06 When Fred Thomas and McKenzie were the 2 starting CBs, both guys were athletic enough to get a top 15 defense, but that changed quickly in the NFCCG vs Chicago.
