We have two 2nd rounders, but I would prefer not trading those away.

well me too but if we could trade one n a plyer for some strong help at corner or lb or might not mind as much. but just one not both in any case. i wouldnt trade pathon only because he has looked great. as the third wo. he will have plenty of chances to get the ball if we can get it to him. i dont think any of our other wo r ready to take over yet

I forgot to mention we also may have to cut a quality O-lineman. Or at the least can afford to let one go.

I believe there are several teams that have recently been decimated along the offensive line. Giants, Rams, Chargers and Panthers come to mind but I imagine they\'d want to trade to an AFC team.

Isn\'t San Diego loaded with quality CB\'s?

yeah they have jammer who isnt going anywhere and davis is decent there. they picked up someone in the trade for boston from miami also. hey i cant imagine anything worse then ambrose. plus craft might be hurt more then we think. so we need some help there. yes ur right about our line. that would be a good option for us

BnB is right, the new head coach is going to want those picks. I\'d rather not hamstring the guy before he gets here.

Here are my prime candidates in order of highest value, assuming we\'re aren\'t trading a future pick...

JT O\'sullivan (I\'d hate it but we\'d probably get a real solid player in return)
Jerome Pathon (With Henderson, Lewis, Gardner and Black, he\'s somewhat tradable)
Zack Hilton (I hope not but I think he\'d help us land a solid LB or DB)
Lamar Smith (I think Miami may have already inquired, but he won\'t bring much in return)
Michael Lewis (I\'d hate this, but he\'d be attractive to a lot of teams. With Henderson, Pathon, Stecker, Stallworth etc we have the return game in good shape)
Ki-Jana Carter (Won\'t bring much in return, but sure looked pretty good of late)
Just my opinion, but the only one on this list I see possibly bringing a \"starter-quality\" LB or CB in return would be Pathon. O\'Sullivan and Hilton (I think) both have yet to play their first real NFL game. Smith and Carter are struggling to hang onto to job here as the third-string RB--what makes anyone think either would draw a starter at another position in return? And Michael Lewis is a 33-year-old who was slightly above average returning kicks last season while being a fourth or fifth option at WR.

The Saints will not acquire a starter at either LB or CB (unless you count a guy who wouldn\'t start on any other team who we just thrust in there) unless they part with a higher profile player than these guys, or package Pathon with a high draft choice.

Howard or Horn are the only guys it even makes a little sense to deal that would land us a starting quality player in return.

With two 2nd rounders I wouldn\'t mind trading one away. The draft is always a gamble.
On the other hand you won\'t get a quality starter for a 2nd rounder. But you might get an average CB which certainly is an upgrade over Ambrose and would immediately make this team better.

I\'m still optimistic about the upcoming season, so why not spend some of the money the Saints still have under the cap?
Can\'t see a player-for-player deal happening.

I disagree. A team may have a veteran who they feel is way overpaid, and in the last year or two of the deal and may be gone next year anyway. Why not get something for the guy before he leaves via free-agency or cap casualty. Especially if you have a hotshot youngster coming up to replace him.

Hilton and O\'Sullivan are attractive prospects, especially to cap strapped teams with too many overpaid vets.
