Just a question. Would San Fran trade Julian Peterson for Darren Howard? I think a SAM of his caliber along side the rookie MLB would be perfect. Put Will Smith in as the starter and be done with it. You stop the run.this team will make it deep into the post season.

I think the Saint\'s have this in mind already. They will wait until the end of the year though, that way we\'ve got excellent depth at that position.

the tricky part is that at the end of the year, Howard is a free agent, and with the inevitability of Deuce\'s contract renegotiation, as well as a baloon payment owed to Horn next year, not only will we not be able to trade howard, but we cant even franchise tag him again. It is unfortunate, but this is a business, and as good as smith looks, howard becomes expendable due to the fact that we still have semi-glaring needs to fill and no money to do so while keeping 3 starting caliber defensive ends.

Trading howard is also risky as the urgency to win this year is more so than ever with haslett, mccarthy, venturi, and even brooks job on the line, and howard is still the best DE we have. Plus franchise type salaries are near impossible to deal at this point in the season with the salary cap rules.

My prediction: We are gonna have howard all year and then he will walk. Hopefully Horn will renegotiate his baloon payment into a bonus so we can keep him longer too, but with the talent we have, that will be dependant on how stallworth does this season and how henderson progresses....but a stallworth/henderson 1, 2 punch is coming sooner than later, and I cant say im unhappy about that prospect even though I think h orn is still the man.
