All the names are cool but what about the local flavor, can you imagine the half time show with various jazz greats, tangle in the Mardi Gras Indians, few 2nd line bands etc and theme it around Mardi Gras. Something like this will host city half time challenges

OZZY would make sense since they play Crazy Train at most stadiums. In fact, I think it was 2007... he did play at the Thursday night season opener with Crazy Train.

At a Prime Time game in San Diego, they had a free FOREIGNER concert before the game and they sang Star Spangled Banner. They would be good too.

Exactly. When the SuperBowl is played in a city with such a unique culture as New Orleans, I would think the halftime should promote local flavor. In fact, I kinda' expect it. I can see Beyonce anytime.

Now, when the SB is hosted by cities like, say, Indianapolis, that basically has no culture, go with the college marching bands or even get the Armed Forces Marching Bands out there.

Grambling and Southern U. Battle of the Bands.

Its a football game. The Super Bowl at that.

How about a peewee football championship. Two 10 minute halves or something like that.
BTW, what ever happened to "Bud-Bowl", not that I was a big fan, just realized it didn't exist anymore.

Personally i'd rather watch some sort of "America's Got Talent" thingy than any band that 60% of America doesn't like.

I doubt more than 10% of the viewers could name 1 song they did.

Probably so, but they do For Whom the Bells Tolls at games. A set of old songs from their early days. Like Hit the Lights, Creeping Death, Four Horsemen, Search & Destoy. That should pump up the players & at least me.

I'd love it too, and tens of fans in attendance would love it too. :p

Every since they had the "wardrobe malfunction" they kept it old school until recently. My vote is for Joe Cocker.

Re: Who would u want to see at the next SB halftime show?

I am not knocking anyone's opinion here.
SB half time is a big , mucial spectactular performed by legendary acts or whoever is really hot on the charts and has crossed over and over. It has to be an entertainer that is really mobile, flashy, can reve up the audience .

Me, I like everything from Bach to Rock as the saying goes.
Some of these entertainers, no. Ozzy, Meatallica, Scary Slipnot, no way. Never. Not crossover.
Heavy metal has a chance as much as real hard core rap. No .
If I am not mistaken , Rolling Stones, U2, BonJovi, Kiss, Bruce Springsteen have already played.
I am going to look that up.
I like these groups , but then that is just me. I agree with ya'll about just university good bands of that state. I like how they scramble in formation and show the score and then again and show the letters of each team.

Grandma' Moses Madonna, ugh. I like older Madonna when she was younger in the 80's, 90's. Of course, she had to go nasty in her SB performance trying to shock because that is Madonna, but Madonna, her style, had have her minions do it and M.I.A. did just that.
I thought it was awful and why did they pick Old Nasty Madonna when she , common sense, was going to do this.
I agree after Boobgate, which Janet Jackson and Justine Timberlake did on purpose, the NFL kept it really safe there for a few years. They went with real safe entertainers.

I think for NY, well, NJ SB next year, play it safe and have Broadway cast from various plays which will be out then.
Older, yet safe acts: Cher.

I like Keith Urban , some people don't. I think he was fine for , I think it SB in Dallas.
Shania Twain did it before. I like her. I like Country Music., Shania was all over all the charts during that time.
That is just my opinion.

I agree with you all about some entertainer related to the culture of that host city.
I like Beyonce. She did her act . That is what she does. I think she is so overkill now. I would have liked to see for N.O. hosting , N.O. entertainment.
I think for a SB in N.O. once before, N.O. artists had it like Dr. John, Irma, Nevilles, and I think, I am sure the late Pete Fountain entertained way back for a SB in N.O.
For N.O. and I do like Beyonce, but I wish it could have been N.O. related, you said, because there is some kind of culture. Shoot, they could have had a whole dern parade pass through one endzone in the Dome and out the next. Krewe of Blaine Kern Company could have made Krewe of Superbowl or Krewe of NFL. A float for each NFL team. Of course , Kings' float out first with King Sean Payton. Had that other man we don't like (Goodelle) have to toast King Sean and on his float , pages Brees, Vilma, Vitt, Loomis . Yeah, I would have like that.LOL!

Re: Who would u want to see at the next SB halftime show?

Opps, when N.O. hosted the SB, there already was Mardi Cras themed ones.
List of Super Bowl halftime shows - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WhoDat!636, I am glad you put up this thread.

Interesting. It seems as recent as 2002, 03, 04, the big change came with one entertainer taking the whole show.
It seeemd better when it was shared by several, it seemd more neutral with something from different genre's, ages, and the entertainers were more neutral. Easy.

Ss it stands now, there is no turning back to a shared stage and show.

Re: Who would u want to see at the next SB halftime show?

The half-time show is just a huge advertisement for the person. They don't get paid, and even have to dish out money. But in the long run, they get sales due to publicity. Getting a good band or whatnot to perform is nearly impossible.

Since this topic has been brought up again - and I'm sure I've said this here and elsewhere before because I'm a big fan of the group - there is, in my opinion, no better choice than Van Halen.

Van Halen rocks. No denying it. Even if you like harder stuff, they still effin Rock. And when you get to the Hagar era, there's enough 'pop-ish' stuff to accommodate that crowd too.

A 4 song show - two with Sammy and two with Diamond Dave - would blow the roof off of the place.

Or how about this. Two with Dave, two with Sammy, and then one to end it with those two guys on stage together trading off the lyrics.

IT...WOULD...BE...EPIC. Of course, you'd have to get Eddie and Alex and Sammy and Dave to agree not to kill each other long enough to make it happen - and I'm just the guy to negotiate that for them. I could do it. I could make it happen.

Yeah. Van Halen. That'd be a halftime show worth watching. The only thing better would be to have the Saints win that game.

I am a Van Halen fan yes... Not of VanHagar..

What would I like to see for a half time show next year? An independent film titled "The Flogging", staring Roger Goodell as the gimp, Co-staring Greg Williams as Strap-on-Sam.

Otherwise, play 15 minutes of the Sopranos. I dont care to see boy bands, pop bands, 60 year old bands...

Saw Van Halen last year. They're all 60 or damn near with the exception of Wolfie - and let me tell you those old men still rock their asses off. Here's a couple videos I took from the San Jose show:

In my humble opinion, this particular 60 year old band rocks harder than just about anyone else age notwithstanding.

Oh don't get me wrong.. Id like to see them in concert. i just don't care for the commercialized extravaganza when i have my gameface on.

A quote from one of the Ravens players at 1/2 time (when they should be thinking about nothing but the game) "at half time we could hear the music in the locker room and were trying to figure out which one of Beyonce's songs was on".

LOL Remember what happened in the second half..They did win but the second half was a different ball game by the Ravens.

I like some of the ideas put forth in this thread but we all know the halftime show is to get people watching that normally wouldn't watch a football game. So they are gonna get the biggest name, usually some pop star, they can get. Personally I"d like to see one of the alternative rock bands play, even one of hte bigger ones that have been around for awhile like the Foo Fighters or Weezer. My personal favorite to do the sohw would be Silversun Pickups. I might be old but my musical heart & head aren't.

It's the superbowl, its going be load and heavy.

If they can get them holograms going like they did of Tupac some Queen,Hendrix or Elvis could be good.Even the Allman brothers with Duane as a hologram.
Not sure about a hologram at the superbowl but I always wanted to see them bands live and never will be able too.
