As previously noted, I hope it's just a smokescreen for the real hire. |

Re: Saints plan to hire Ryan as DC
I like the idea of hiring him. The Dallas D had some nice stints last year and if there was one thing missing in our D last year it was swagger, which Ryan brings a lot to the table.

Saints interview Todd Grantham from Alabama tomorrow, Ryan on Friday. Regardless of what the news says, they are still interviewing.
Ryan has never been a DC on a team with a winning record, and that bothers me. I do buy into the value of "knowing how to win"..... Which has little to do with football and more to do with not imploding you can taste victory. Winning is a culture. EG Atlanta Falcons |

Re: Saints plan to hire Ryan as DC
Looks like grantham and Ryan stomped some of the same grounds but at different time periods.. Browns and Cowboys.
However Grantham was on winning teams, good accomplishments, has installed a 3-4 before, and his background is in the D-line. From what I read on both i would rather Grantham. |

Re: Saints plan to hire Ryan as DC
Grantham:
Pros- Giving a "choke" sign to Mike Smith next year. Someone might finally explain to me what a Hokie is and why it's a good thing. Cons- Kind of a spotty record with the pros. "He was fired on January 11, 2008 after the 2007 season with the Brown's defense ranking 25th against the pass, 27th against the run, and 30th in total-yards-against among 32 teams." Ryan: Pros- His un-miced cussing on the sidelines is legendary. It could maybe even get Bilick to actually talk about the game instead of babbling on about every other team in the league. Cons- Some kid in some sweatshop'll be putting in some major extra hours sewing big ol' fleur de lis on big ol' shirts for maybe ten twelve cents an hour. Draw- They were both DCs for Cleveland although Ryan was hired in after Grantham was fired and did a fairly decent job considering he had to deal with Holmgren, Mangina and the fact that the defense was on the field about eighty percent of the time due to some of the amazing decisions made by the two idiots mentioned above. I'm still in the we'll see camp although I really would like to finally find out what a freakin' hokie is. |

Re: Saints plan to hire Ryan as DC
Whomever the Saints hire as the new DC, he's going to have his hands full trying to find players to fit the scheme. The Saints haven't been able to field 3 quality LB's for years and now 4 will be required. Plus, the 3-4 needs a stud NT. Unless they see Hicks as that guy, that's another BIG whole to fill. Then, you have an aging Greer and very inconsistent Robinson at CB, a completely ineffective FS in Jenkins, and an overpaid, non-covering SS in Harper. Of course, since this years defense allowed the most yards of all time, surely it can't be any worse.
