While the front office is at it...

...get us a new special teams coordinator, too. McMahon has gotten abused by opposing Special Teams coordinators in the last few years. Can you remember the last fake punt or fake field goal we've stopped in the last couple of years? You can't because we haven't.

The numbers below don't lie. Our coverage teams rarely finish in the top half, and our return game is hit-and-miss from year to year.

Special Teams Returns Ranks
2006 - KO Returns 14th / Punt Returns 28th
2007 - 26th / 23rd
2008 - 8th / 4th
2009 - 4th / 31st
2010 - 15th / 23rd
2011 - 3rd / 17th
2012 - 11th / 26th

Special Teams Coverage Ranks
2006 - KO Coverage 16th / Punt Coverage 6th
2007 - 15th / 19th
2008 - 23rd / 25th
2009 - 28th / 32nd
2010 - 24th / 28th
2011 - 28th / 5th
2012 - 24th / 29th

Special Teams will win you or lose you 2 games a year. 2 games is a big difference when you're hanging around .500 or if you're in the position for home field advantage.

That Giants game was embarrassing to watch, and that game alone should've cost McMahon his job. But McMahon is another one of those guys who should be replaced after every season, but won't for some inexplicable reason.

Because he's smarter than we are.

Maybe McMahon has copies of those pictures Shanle seems to be holding onto. Other'n that it's a pure mystery why he's still around. Remember a couple of years ago when we got caught by two fake punts two games in a row? Ever since then I just shake my head every time I see that guy on the sidelines.

Re: While the front office is at it...

Yep, I remember those fake punts.

We're 16th over the last 3 seasons in our own KO/Punt returns (with Sproles for 2 of those no less), and we're averaging 25th in KO/Punt coverage over the last 5 seasons. And he is still here after THAT?

This guy is now just showing up and getting paid. It's overdue time for a change in philosophy as opposed to McMahon's unorganized, undisciplined format (just how many dirty looks can Payton give this turd every game?) He costs too many unnecessary time-outs, too many field position-changing plays, and too many momentum-changing plays per season and too many PER GAME against a top-tier Special Teams Coordinator.

He's had plenty of time to make this part of the game consistently good, but he has obviously failed. If you're not trending towards improvement, what's the point of being in charge of anything? Tell this guy to hit the bricks.

McMahon needs to take a different position.....since he's obviously not going anywhere.
